Got it open? Good! Now look at the
hodge-podge of hoses, wires & boxes in
front of you! Good gosh Gertie! Don't
despair . . . we'll explain some of the
items to you . . . at least the ones we
will be checking.
The first monstrous thing we see is
the valve cover . . . the top of the
engine. In front of that, a radiator.
Just below the radiator cap you'll see
a small hose running to a plastic water
container. This is an expansion tank.
(Check the radiator drawing to see the
expansion reservoir).

This reservoir is where you will
check the water level. NEVER open a
radiator cap if the water is hot! You
will probably be scalded! There is
no need to open the cap unless there
is work to be done. ALWAYS check the
water level in the expansion tank.
Keep it between the two marks . . .
at the hot mark if you have been on
the road and at the cold mark if the
car has not been started for several
hours. Add water if required to this
reservoir only. We'll get into leaks
a little later on.
