  7. Medicine, a finding that is odd but demonstrably true: men run
  8. the greatest risk of dying shortly before their birthday, while
  9. women tend to die in the week just after. The biological reason
  10. is unclear, but speculation is focusing on the possible
  11. connection between mental state and physical health -- and no
  12. wonder, since the study was done in California. The increased
  13. risk is small enough that no one should worry, say the experts
  14. -- but to be safe, don't schedule major elective surgery for
  15. that time of year.
