  5. Representative from New Jersey who was the inspiration for the
  6. character Lacey Davenport in the comic strip Doonesbury; in
  7. Bernardsville, New Jersey. Fenwick, a onetime model and the
  8. author of Vogue's Book of Etiquette in 1948, came from an
  9. aristocratic, moneyed background. Elected to Congress at 64, she
  10. served four terms, gaining a reputation as a civil rights
  11. crusader and an advocate for reduced campaign spending.
