  4.     DIED. Philip Habib, 72, leading career diplomat who
  5. influenced U.S. policy for three decades; of a heart attack; in
  6. Puligny-Montrachet, France. Habib was head of the peace talks
  7. in Paris that ended the Vietnam War. He helped arrange the
  8. cease-fire in Lebanon and the P.L.O.'S withdrawal from that
  9. country in 1982. He was also instrumental in persuading
  10. Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos to go into exile in 1986.
