  11. other participants in Rio de Janeiro beginning June 3. The
  12. central premise of this unprecedented Earth Summit is that
  13. environmental problems can no longer be solved at the national
  14. level. Will the countries represented in Rio -- notably the U.S.
  15. -- show the courage and vision and leadership necessary to
  16. protect our planet for future generations? The answer is not
  17. certain, but there is some hope.
