  7.     Some habits are hard to break. Senators CLAIBORNE PELL and
  8. DAVID BOREN, the chairmen of the Foreign Relations and
  9. Intelligence committees, have been traveling through Southeast
  10. Asia during the Easter-Passover recess on a military C-20B
  11. (cost: $2,614 an hour), stopping in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Indonesia
  12. and Papua New Guinea (to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the
  13. Battle of the Coral Sea). Even though commercial flights were
  14. available, sources say, one of the reasons for going military
  15. was that wives travel free. Boren argues that the spouses were
  16. invited by some of the governments to participate in events.
  17. Says he: "Surely we do not want to get to the point where we
  18. hinder the chairmen of two of the three committees that have
  19. oversight of international relations and national security from
  20. being able to do their jobs."
