  7.     'Tis better to have loved and lost than never to have
  8. loved at all -- but 'tis a whole lot more expensive, as radio
  9. raconteur LARRY KING can attest. His fifth marriage, marked by
  10. more ups and downs than a Jon Lovitz polygraph, is kaput for
  11. keeps. The result: a seven-figure settlement. "I'll never marry
  12. again," says the Mickey Rooney of the microphone. "I'm a
  13. romantic. I just don't know that marriage is the answer to
  14. romance." King blames his matrimonial losing streak on . . .
  15. Larry King: "I love my work most of all." That love has not gone
  16. unrequited -- last week the National Association of Broadcasters
  17. inducted King into the Broadcasting Hall of Fame. The "talk
  18. radio" pioneer, now a cable-TV interlocutor as well, is a
  19. defiant liberal in a field rife with conservatives -- for whom
  20. he has little respect. "They pick easy targets. The
  21. congressional pay. The bouncing checks. They don't take a stand
  22. for the Puerto Rican in the community, the black, the
  23. downtrodden -- a stand which gets you in trouble."
