  9. says New York Mets pitcher Dwight Good en in the foreword to
  10. Darryl, ex-teammate Strawberry's new book. Gooden might have
  11. been less happy if he had read page 214, where the real Darryl
  12. suggests, "If Gooden was using cocaine during the 1986 World
  13. Series, I wouldn't have been surprised" -- a line typical of
  14. Straw's fiery account of his eight-year battle with Mets
  15. management. The L.A. Dodger also says of his former bosses, "The
  16. Mets put black ballplayers in a second-class role and paid them
  17. second-class salaries." While insisting that his speculation
  18. about Gooden was "blown out of proportion," Strawberry
  19. proclaims, "I stand firm" on the charge of major-league racism.
