  121. Thank you for taking the time to evaluate GrabIt Pro. You will find a great 
  122. many uses for this program. It is both a screen capture program and a 
  123. marvelous utility for working with your favorite graphics program. 
  124. By using GrabIt Pro to capture and save the images you have created, you will 
  125. save many megabytes of hard disk space since only the crucial information 
  126. about your bitmap is saved to disk.  This results in very small bitmaps 
  127. that load faster and are much easier to view and store.

  129. Please keep in mind that GrabIt Pro is being distributed as Shareware. This gives
  130. you the oppurtunity to "try before you buy", just as a test drive in that new
  131. car you always wanted. But just as the car dealer needs to be paid for his
  132. efforts so do we!

  134. New Features In Version 3.1
  135. ---------------------------
  136. -> Grabit has a new name: GrabIt Professional
  137.    We felt that the many improvements made to this version warranted a new
  138.    name.  
  139.  
  140. -> The program now uses the Multiple Document Interface so that you may
  141.    work with a large number of screen captures at the same time, each in
  142.    its own child window.
  143.  
  144. -> You can now save a bitmap in both BMP and RLE format.
  145.  
  146. -> Convert color images to monochrome
  147.  
  148. -> You can see the size and attributes of a graphic before you open it.
  149.  
  150. -> Capture a single window, client area only, or the entire desktop with
  151.    a single command from the GrabIt Pro Menu.  This is in addition to the
  152.    standard selected area capture in version 2.01.

  154. -> Mark selected areas of child windows and create a new image from the
  155.    capture without changing the original screen capture.

  180. Capturing A Window Only
  181. ----------------------------------
  182. To capture an entire Window follow the steps outlined below:
  183.     1. Select Entire Window from the Grab menu or press Ctrl + W
  184.     2. The GrabIt window will disappear and the cursor will change into a 
  185.     net with a crosshair.
  186.     3. Move the cursor to the Title Bar of the Window you wish to capture.
  187.     4. Click on the title bar.
  188.     5. The window capture will be displayed in a child window.
  189.  
  190. Capturing The Window Client Area Only
  191. -------------------------------------
  192. To capture the window client area only (no caption bar) follow the steps 
  193. outlined below:
  194.  
  195.     1. Select Client Area from the Grab menu or press Ctrl + C
  196.     2. The GrabIt window will disappear and the cursor will change into a 
  197.     net with a    crosshair.
  198.     3. Move the cursor to the client area of the window you wish to capture.
  199.     4. Click on the client area.
  200.     5. Your client area capture will be displayed in a child window.

  202. Capturing A Selected Area Of The Screen
  203. ---------------------------------------
  204. To capture a portion of the screen follow the steps outlined below:
  205.  
  206.     1. Click on Selected Area from the Grab menu selection or press Ctrl + M
  207.     2. The GrabIt window will disappear and the cursor will change into a 
  208.            crosshair.
  209.     3. Move the cursor to the UPPER LEFT HAND CORNER of the area you wish to 
  210.            capture.
  211.     4. Press and hold down the LEFT mouse button.
  212.     5. As you move the mouse you will see that the area you are marking will 
  213.            be changed to inverse video.
  214.         6. When you have marked the area you wish to capture release the left
  215.            mouse button.
  216.     7. The Image will now be displayed in a child window. 
  217.  
  218. Capturing The Entire Desktop
  219. ----------------------------
  220. To capture the entire Windows desktop follow the steps outlined below:
  221.     1. Select Desktop from the Grab menu or press Ctrl + D
  222.     2. The GrabIt window will disappear 
  223.         3. The GrabIt window will re-appear
  224.     4. Your desktop grab will be displayed in a child window.

  234. Capturing Selected Areas Of A Child Window
  235. ------------------------------------------
  236. You may need to capture only a portion of a screen grab or file opened 
  237. from disk. Follow these steps to capture a portion of a child window.
  238.  
  239.     1. Move the mouse cursor to the UPPER LEFT HAND corner of the image that 
  240.            you want to capture.  Press and HOLD THE LEFT MOUSE BUTTON DOWN.
  241.     2. Drag the crosshair cursor to invert the area.
  242.         3. When you release the left mouse button the area you marked will
  243.            remain inverted.
  244.     4. Press Ctrl + Ins to copy that area to the clipboard.
  245.     5. Now press Shift + Ins to copy the new image into a child window.
  246.         6. That's all there is to it!  You now have a window that contains only
  247.            the area you selected.
  248.     7. Save your new image to disk
  249.  
  250. -> Special Note On Child Window Selected Area Captures <-
  251.    ---------------------------------------------------
  252. When you mark an area of a child window the inverted rectangle will
  253. remain visible until you either click on the window again or select another
  254. window. You must clear the inverted rectangle in any child window before
  255. performing another screen capture operation.  The program has set the focus
  256. to that rectangle so that you may copy and
