OCR: ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ Wilson, Woodrow Woodrow Wilson Woodrow Wilson is remembered as the leading figure in the peace process ending World War I, and as champion of the League of Nations (forerunner of the United Nations). Originally an academic, he became governor of New Jersey and later president with his New Freedom platform of liberal reforms. Believing in the rights of the individual against the interests of finance, industry, and commerce, he introduced radical measures such as the Trade Commission and the Women's Suffrage Amendment. During World War I, despite incidents such as the sinking of the Lusitania (1915), Wilson maintained a stance of neutrality until Germany resumed unrestricted submarine warfare in 1917. His famous "Fourteen Points" speech formed the basis of the Armistice. However, Woodrow Wilson, he had less success at the Versailles Peace U.S. politician, 1856-1924 Conference, though the League of Nations convention was accepted, and when he returned home both the peace treaty and LLLL LLLL the convention were rejected by the U.S. Senate. A few years later his career ended in illness and disappointment. CHRONOLOGY
