OCR: CHRONOLOGY DECEMBER 21, 1879 Bom Iosif Vissarionovich Dzhugashvili, in Gori, Georgia. 1903 Joins Bolsheviks under Vladimir Lenin. JULY 1913 Becomes leader of the Bolsheviks in the Duma (Parliament), but is exiled to Siberia until March 1917. NOVEMBER 1917 Selected to be commissar for Nationalities by Vladimir Lenin. APRIL 3, 1922 Appointed general secretary of the Soviet Communist party. NOVEMBER 1927 Becomes uncontested leader of the Soviet Communist party and government. APRIL 4, 1949 Steps up Cold War against the West following the creation of NATO. MARCH 5, 1953 Dies under suspicious circumstances and is buried in Lenin's mausoleum under the Kremlin. OCTOBER 30, 1961 His embalmed body is reburied adjacent to the Kremlin in a nondescript grave.
