OCR: CHRONOLOGY OCTOBER 31, 1887 Bom Chiang Chung-Cheng, in China. MARCH 12, 1925 Becomes Nationalist leader following death of Sun Yat-sen. 1926 Joins forces with the Chinese Communists to overthrow the government in Peking. MARCH 21, 1927 Enters Shanghai and begins to establish a new government. APRIL 30, 1931 Faces rebellion from Nationalist factions in the army while continuing to battle the Communists. AUGUST 19, 1946 Mao, at head of millions of Communist soldiers and guerrilla fighters, calls for all-out war on Chiang. DECEMBER 8, 1949 Retreats to Taiwan, together with 500,000 troops, and forms pro-Wester government in exile 1950-75 President of Taiwan. APRIL 5, 1975 Dies in Taiwan following a heart attack.
