- Dear YIPL,
- In issue no. 15 the "T" network doss not work
- for the Southern New ~ngland Bell Co. system
- because coin return etc. still works with ouly red
- and qreen wires, even when yellow is cut. (there
- is no black for S. N. E. T. )
- Collect rn11s are accepted always at a certain pay
- phone in a dorm. Could this mean that it is being
- tapped7 I! so, how can I tell? Is there any
- way that I still can work the "T" network?
- -DESTROY- CONNECTICITT.
-
- In cartain places the pay phone uses a ground
- wire seperate from the pone line cable. Look
- for a wire to a nearby pipe, or to an electric
- fixture plate. Otherwise, try reversing the po-
- ~rity of the red and ~reen wires, this shoü~d
- reverse all collect and return siguals.
-
- Pay phones that don't start with 99 or 98 in
- the last four digits are good ~cargets for collect
- calls. Operators us~y don't accept c.~us to
- most pay phones because they reco~nize the #.
- Sirs,
- In w~iting to recieve your publications my
- sole ~nterest was in gaining knowledge about
- electrical systems. Yet, upon recieving some
- back issues (ordered 11772) I have found the
- political motivation of your organization tot~y
- contrary to my own. My interests certainly do
- not lie in "ripping offt' the Bell system. Eventual
- reform in soc~ety must come from more concrete
- and benefical works (this being the primary idea
- ~hind my involvement witb UNICEE).
- Because of the misunderstand~ng ~nitiating our
- contact, I must der~l~na tbat 3ä further commun-
- ic~tions cease unwediately. -D. C. -N. Y.

- ~YIPL has determined, after exhaustive testing, that ~e
- economy has taken a turn t~ward heaven, thus temptin<;
- us to raise our prices. Of course, we wouldn't thinls of
- doing that to you, our money-drsined devotees. So we
- decided that the only way to keep YlPL's price down is
- to increase circulation immediatelY. That me~ns ei~er
- every YIPL has to sign up one friend, or a {ew YIPLs
- have to sign up severtl1 friends. You people are taldng
- part in the ~reatest man vs. machine drama ever to
- unfold in the history o! civilization, and you r~n help
- to ma~e it a lot of ~n, so help out, O. K ~ Don't for-
- get that the more people we have, the more we have
- to intimidate Bell wi~h, the more information we get
- to use and people to use it, and the more people who

- Dear Friends,
-
- Just finished reading "Happiness is a E31ue Box"
- in the YiDster Times and al~ I can say is here
- is my 2 dollars for the YIPL
-
- Off the subject of phones, ~pe recorders
- can be a power~l tool in ch~lenging your
- construct of the world and to understand
- how words manipulate (which can be used to ^ --
- advantage). Tape recorders c~n be used for
- social change. For fairly extensive e~cperimer
- with the tape recorder, read "THE JOB" by
- William Burrougäs {Naked Lunch) published by
- Grove Press. Or~ly in hardcover to the best of my
- ~owledge, bot some librar~es ha~re it. Read
- 1'THE JOB'' if at all possible-most exciting book
- I b~ve come across in many a year.
