Vellum for Cross Stitch Designs
It's great--get it at engineering/architectural supply stores.
It comes plain or with blue grid or orange grid. Vellum is fairly transparent,
good rag content so it holds up to erasing and time and is extremely nice for
inking or penciling. The grid I use is in 10ths. The blue is for drafting
when you do not want the grid to reproduce--the orange reproduces so for
creating a cross stitch pattern is great! You can buy it in sheets or by the
roll--I buy it by the roll, cut off the amount I need, tape it to a board and
go to it! The tape comes right off without tearing. I use colored pencils to
create my pattern---the vellum can be taped down over a drawing you have
already made and you will be able to see the drawing well enough through the
vellum to chart. Then, if you want to use symbols, rechart the design on the
orange grid and take it to a printers and you'll have your pattern complete
with grid! Almost all patterns are in 10ths--so yours will look
professional--except that the symbols will be hand drawn!!! So be neat!!
I wouldn't use anything else!
And, I highly recommend an electric eraser--also available there--with the
yellow erasers (maybe blue depending on the brand). Saves your hand, erases
CLEAN! They are expensive--about 50.00 but well worth it! If you ever use one
you'll never go back to the manual way!
