Holiday "Felt" Country Patchwork Tree Skirt
Materials Needed.-
1 square yard (36 x 36) red/gold pin dot Fancy Felt
4 - 9 x 12 rectangles of kelly/silVer pin dot
and 9-9 x 12 rectangles of white/gold dashes
Fancy Felt
5 1/2 yards gold metallic jumbo rick rack
2 2/3 yards kellY green gold metallic 3/8"
ribbon (or substitute kellY grosgrain ribbon)
bottle of tacky glue
hot glue gun
ruler
medium tip black permanent marker
Take a 36" x 36" Square Of red/gold pin dot Fancy Felt
and lay it flat on table so the back side is up. Using a
long straight edge, make a small X in center of square
by laying a straight edge across center from corner to
the opposite corner.
Next mark slit line from center mark to center of one
side. This should be 18" from each end.
Now mark. 8" in on both sides of each 4 corners. Draw
a line from each mark and trim away corner fabric along
these lines.
Tie a piece of string to marker. Hold end of 3" of string
on center mark and draw a 6" diameter circle. Trim
fabric away and then cut along line to center of one side
for slit.
On back side of white/gold dot Fancy Felt draw six 8"
squares. Draw a diagonal line from one corner to opposite
one to create triangles. Cut out 12 of these. Using the same
method mark six 6" squares = 12 triangles.
From kelly/silver pin dot Fancy Felt cut:
six 6" squares = 12 triangles
six 4" squares = 12 triangles
One at a time, tacky glue back side of kelly triangles and
press in center of front side of larger size white triangles.
Once all triangles are layered, lay out triangles on front
side of tree skirt. It is important to accurately lay these
pieces out and make any adjustments at this time. Once you
are satisfied, begin tacky glueing back side of layered triangles
One at a time and press then in place in overlapping positions.
Once all triangles are pressed in place in tree pattern
cut through tree covering skirt slit, Cut should be
through top part of triangles.
Trim skirt by hot gluing gold metallic jumbo rick rack
all around edge starting at slit and tucking ends under
at slit. Repeat around edge of skirt hole and around back
of triangle square sunrounding hole.
Add 8 bows made from 12" lengths of ribbon hot glued to tops
of trees.
