I love this thread, because I love gadgets. I've seen bumper stickers that
read "The one who dies with the most fabric wins" and I think that can be
applied to gadgets, too. I've thought of three that I love, but tomorrow
there may be more.
1) my stilleto. When I was given this by a non quilting friend, I thought
gee, it's kind of pretty, but what on earth would I use it for? Well, I use
it to help feed little bits of fabric through my machine, to help turn under
pesky allowances on applique, and as a seam ripper. It is always near me.
2) Dr. Scholl's foot and shoe pad. This is an adhesive backed piece of
foam - about 1/8" thick. When I measure my 1/4 inch seam on my sewing machine,
I stick a narrow strip of Dr. S's f&s pad on my sewing machine to use as a guide Because of its thickness, fabric butts up against it and I am better able
to maintain a 1/4 inch sewing seam. Also, it is non-magnetic, so no harm to
my sewing machine - and, it's even economical.
3) GE sp-30 flourescent (sp.) light bulbs. I have a light fixture in my sewing
studio that requires 4 48" fluorescent bulbs. The regular ones give a blue
light, but the sp-30 allows all the rays of the spectrum to be seen. Do not
confuse these with the pink sp-35 bulbs, which are used primarily in
funeral homes, for obvious reasons. Four of the sp-30's cost $29.00 and four
of the sp-35's are twice that amount.
And now a request. I washed some fabric for my stash this weekend and some
red bled onto a nice white/brown shirting piece. I know, I shouldn't have
washed them together, but the damabe is done. Isn't there a produce on the
market made specifically to remove this kind of stain? (damabe in the sentence
above = damage and produce = product, boy, it's getting late.)

I have used the little foot on my Viking. (I bought it when i had a kenmore).
You have to unscrew the entile foot, not just the snap on foot. Like you do
with the feet that go on the grey foot instead of the white. I rarely use the
little foot since I figured how to adjust my needle for a 1/4 inch seam. After
4 years of using the little foot, I can eyeball a 1/4 seam for miters without
