Clare, I have taken a couple of classes with Ruth McDowell. We did design a block and rearrage it different ways according to various symmetries. We didn't do any Penros tilings. If you do take the class and do Penrose tilings, I would
certainly love to hear how it's done. I haven't taken a class with Caryl
Fallert, but hear she is a wonderful teacher.
By the way, are there any fabrics from New Zealand that we don't get here? Would you be interested in sending/trading any? Some teachers that I have had classes with have brought back great stuff from New Zealand.......Janice

Hi everybody,
Janice asked whether we get any different material in New Zealand, that you
don't get elsewhere. To be honest I don't know. I do know that most of the
quilting shops sell very limited ranges of American designs, which are only
available for a short while. I have never bought material from a quilt shop as
I've always been too broke (its 20-30 New Zealand dollars a metre). If I want
something different, or a particular shade of colour, I screen print it.
If people really want me to look for different stuff I can see if I can get
info from the quilt shops or something.
I am going to buy my first rotary cutter, board and ruler this week. The local
quilt group are cutting out 6 inch squares (why is it that quilts are in
imperial and New Zealand has been metric for 13 years?) to make quilts for the
Women's Refuge. They are going to give me practice with the cutter.
Best wishes everybody Clare smith_c@kosmos.wcc.govt.nz
