Re: Mini QBE for Sept
I decided to use the colors that they used for the block which are
cream, lavender print, light pink print, purple and light green.
I don't want anyone to have to go out and buy more fabric, so please,
if you have colors that will coordinate or complement these colors,
that will be perfectly acceptable. They also gave a substitution
suggestion that sounds real pretty too. The suggestion was to
use navy for the purple patches, a light blue print for the lavender,
a cranberry print for the pink and a rose print for the green. And
for a crisp, fresh look, pure white could be used for the cream.
Of course, solids will work well also.
Ok, the square consist of three parts: a 1-5/8 inch square (A),
a 2 x 2 x 2-3/4 inch triangle (B), and a 1-5/8 x 1-5/8 x 2-3/8
inch triangle (C). What I did for the triangles was to cut
2 inch squares for (B) and then cut the squares in half diagonally,
(make sure that the long side of the (B) triangle is on the
straight of grain of the fabric, either lengthwise or crosswise)
and for (C), I cut 1-5/8 inch squares and then cut the squares
in half diagonally. These measurements do include 1/4 inch seam
allowances. My finished block size came out to be 5 inches square,
which includes a 1/4 inch seam allowance for all four sides.
You will need 9 (A) squares: 5 - purple (AP) & 4 - lt. pink print
(ALP); 8 (B) triangles: 4 - lavender print (BL) & 4 - cream (BC);
and 20 (C):
and 20 (C): 8 - lavender print (CL), 8 - cream (CC), & 4 - lt.
green (CLG).

Construction Hints:
Make a center strip consisting of 3 AP's and ALP's alternately and
ending each end with a CLG.
Then sew together a rectangle of CLP,BC,CLP. To this add a BLP to
the long side. Sew a CC to each end of this to create a pieced
triangle (make two of these for each side of the center strip).
Then sew an ALP and AP together and sew a CLG to the AP end.
Then sew two of the pieced triangles to this each side of this
short strip to create a larger pieced triangle. Then all that's
left is to sew the two larger triangles to each side of the center
strip.
I hope this fairly understandable. I will be glad to send a of
the instructions that I received for this pattern.
