DESIGN-A-PATTERN DEMONSTRATION PROGRAM INFORMATION FILE
This demonstration version of DESIGN-A-PATTERN Volume #1 for
basic sweaters is a full working program except for disabled
printout features. A sample ASCII printout (SWEATER1.TXT) is
included for a capsleeve set-in sweater to show row numbers and
needle changes for precise curve shaping. For Windows versions
of the demonstration program, you can use Windows PAINT to edit
the sample graphics file (BODY.BMP) on the demo disk.
The following instructions should be used to run this program.
1. Type 'INSTALL' at the DOS prompt to create a directory
('KNITWIN' or 'KNITDOS') and copy program files to it.
2. For Windows versions, use the File Manager to start the
program (double click 'DEMOWIN.EXE'). For DOS versions, type
'DEMO.EXE' at the prompt.
3. After clicking the START button on the first screen, an
information screen will appear with 6 menu items (Styles,
Necklines, Information, Sizing, Calculate and Output). The
menu bar is activated by the 'ALT' key or mouse click. Menu
items are chosen by mouse, cursor/return keys or highlighted
keys. Follow these directions to design your own sweater
pattern.
A. Activate the STYLE menu and select a style.
B. Activate the NECKLINES menu and select front and back
neckline styles.
C. Activate the INFORMATION menu and choose Automatic Entry
to enter all data where the cursor appears on the information
summary box. Choose Yarn Gauges if you don't want to enter
other pattern information. Individual items can be changed
after initial entry.
D. Activate the SIZING menu and choose a sweater
measurement option.
- Retrieve loads a previously saved measurement file.
If you don't know the filename, use the mouse to select a drive
and file directory.
- Starter sizing loads automatic sizing based on chest
measurements. These should be changed on the Adjust/Calculation
Screen for custom sizing from the Measurement Chart included in
the user's manual. Starter measurements should NOT be used as
standard sizing.
- New is used to enter new sizing from your Measurement
Chart. You will be prompted in sequence to enter data. If you
make a mistake, it can be corrected on the Adjustment Screen.
- Save stores measurements to disk. Answer prompts for
drive and filename to use for saving measurement files.
4. For WINDOWS programs, click CALCULATE on the menu bar to
load the size adjustment screen for calculating rows and
stitches. Click DRAW to see your pattern. Use the mouse to
change sizing, and click DRAW to redraw your pattern. When you
are satisfied, click COUNT and select panels for row/stitch
calculations. Click DONE to return to the main menu screen.
For DOS programs, use a mouse to change sizing on the main
screen, and click VIEW/CALCULATE to see your pattern or
calculate rows and stitches. Click DRAW PANELS to see your
pattern or CALCULATE select panels for row/stitch directions.
Click RETURN for the main menu screen.
5. Select OUTPUT for graphics and text printout options. Many
of these options have been deactivated for this demonstration
program. Play with this demo program to test the flexibility of
DESIGN-A-PATTERN. Four volumes are available for WINDOWS or DOS.
Volume #1: Basic sweaters (drop-shoulder, raglan, set-in,
sideways)
Volume #2: Skirts and Pants (6 skirt styles, shorts, briefs ,
culottes and slacks)
Volume #3: Advanced tops (5 types of darted tops, yokenecks and
saddle-shoulder)
Volume #4: Asymmetric Tops (5 types of vests, double-breasted
and crossover)
