  10.   PUFFY XMAS ORNTS

  12.   Here are the general directions for these ornaments that are
  13.   called romance ornaments.
  14.  
  15.   Size and Gauge - It is important to achieve the gauge
  16.   specified, otherwise your project will not be the correct
  17.   size.  Before starting your project, make a sample swatch of
  18.   the stitch or pattern.  If the sample swatch is too small,
  19.   try a larger size hook; if the swatch is too large, try a
  20.   smaller size hook.  Do not hesitate to change hook size to
  21.   obtain the correct gauge.

  23.   Starching Instructions - Materials:
  24.   small party balloons
  25.   white household glue
  26.   steel crochet hook
  27.   small plastic bowl
  28.   spray water bottle

  30.   Note:  Be sure to keep hands clean while handling ornaments.

  32.   Step 1.  Pour glue into a small bowl.  With moist, clean
  33.   hands, saturate ornament with glue, kneading the glue into
  34.   the threads.
  35.   Step 2.  Insert blunt end (without hook) of crochet hook
  36.   into balloon and push into saturated ornament.  Grasp bottom
  37.   of ornament and balloon and remove crochet hook.
  38.   Step 3.  Inflate balloon, being careful not to over inflate,
  39.   as that would produce a stringy, stretched out appearance.
  40.   Twist neck of balloon several times and tuck inside ornament
  41.   using blunt end of crochet hook.  Adjust ornament until it
  42.   is well spaced and symmetrical.
  43.   Step 4.  Dry thoroughly for up to several hours.  Drying
  44.   time will vary according to temperature and humidity,
  45.   therefore it may be necessary to keep checking for dryness.
  46.   When threads begin to feel dry and somewhat rigid, deflate
  47.   balloon.  If the ornament collapses, re-inflate balloon and
  48.   allow more drying time.
  49.   Step 5.  Ornaments can be re-shaped, if necessary, by
  50.   wetting with a spray bottle and molding into desired shape.
  51.   Do not allow ornament to get too wet or it may collapse. If
  52.   this occurs, place balloon in ornament, re-inflate and let
  53.   dry.
