  12.   this is another variation of a snowbird/dove ornament. this one is a LOT
  13.   easier than the previous one posted and the one i gave away for xmas gifts
  14.   this year.

  16.   size-4 1/2" x 1" wide, for average crocheters with some experience.

  18.   stitches used: picot and shell stitches are in caps in pattern but are
  19.   explained here also:

  23.   head:starting at the center top of the head with a single strand of thread
  24.   (i also leave a long 12" tail to make the beak later)use #7 hook, ch2

  85.   to assemble:sew flat narrow edge of wing to rnd 13 of body. the two shells
  86.   should be at the bottom part of the dove.

  88.   beak: with a single strand of thread, and #7 hook, attach thread to rnd 4
  89.   of head (i use the long thread from the starting chain and weave it into
  90.   rnd 4 of the head) ch3. join w/slst to first ch. fasten off. work ends in

  92.   eyes: sew on 2 black beads for eyes (optional)

  94.   to shape and stiffen:place on wax paper. with slightly diluted glue, paint
  95.   body, wings and tail. smoothing and shaping as they dry. ( i usually
  96.   stiffen the body after stuffing and BEFORE doing the tail. i also glue the
  97.   wings on after and glue the tail so it's facing more upward than lying
  98.   flat). i also tie a small piece of red ribbon around the ridge near the
  99.   neck and tie into a bow. while drying after brushing the glue on i hang it
  100.   from a kitchen cabinet around the handle with a hanger placed 3/4 of the
  101.   way from the head part.
