  6. Sizes: Birth to 3 months Sole measures 3 1/2" long

  9. Materials: 1 ball of bedspread cotton (white only) or Coats and Clark
  10. Knit-Cro Sheen (white and colors) for bootie. 1 ball Coats and Clark
  11. pearl cotton #5 in contrasting color for trim. Steel crochet hook
  12. #5 or english hook # 2 1/2 (or size that will give you the correct
  13. guage.

  15. Gauge: 9 DC = 1 inch

  19. GENERAL DIRECTIONS

  21. SOLE: Starting at center with main color ch 22 to measure 2 1/2".

  23. 1st RND (right side): Work 7 dc in 4th ch from hook, dc in next
  24. 17 ch, work 8 dc in last ch, working along opposite edge of
  25. starting chain, work dc in next 17 ch, join with sl st in 3rd ch
  26. of starting ch.

  28. 2cd RND: ch 3, dc in same place as sl st, work 2 dc in each of next
  29. 7 dc (heel), dc om mext 3 dc, h dc in next dc, sc in next 2 dc, h dc
  30. in next dc, dc in next 3 dc, tr in next 6 dc, 2 tr in each of next
  31. 10 dc (toe), tr in next 6 dc, dc in next 3 dc, h dc in next dc, sc in
  32. next 2 dc, h dc in next dc, dc in next 3 dc, join.

  34. Completed sole should measure 3 1/2 inches.

  36. HEEL and INSTEP:
  37. 1st RND: Ch 3, working around heel, dc in back loop of next 22 sts,
  38. with safety pin mark last dc made, dc in back lp of remaining
  39. sts around sole. Join (68 dc, counting starting ch 3 as 1 dc; ridge
  40. formed around sole. Break off.

  43. HEEL:

  45. 1st ROW: With wrong side facing you attach main color to marked dc,
  46. ch 3 (work thru both lps of each st from now on unless otherwise noted),
  47. working around heel, dc in next 27 dc, ch 4 turn.

  50. 2cd ROW: Skip 1st dc, dc in next dc (ch 1, skip next dc, dc in next dc)
  51. 13 times (14 spaces around heel). Break off.

  53. 3rd ROW: With right side facing you, attach thread in first space om
  54. last row, ch 3 sl st in 3rd ch from hook (picot made), sc in same
  55. sp, (make p, sc in next sp) 13 times; p, sc in same sp (15 p). Break off.

  57. To DEC 1 DC: * Yo hook, insert hook in next st and draw up lp, yo, draw
  58. through 2 lps on hook. Repeat from * once more, yo, draw through all
  59. 3 lps on hook.

  61. To DEC 2 DC: * Yo, insert hook in the next st and draw up lp, yo, draw
  62. through 2 lps on hook, repeat from * twice more; yo, draw through
  63. all 4 lops

  66. all 3 lps on hook.

  73. of chain. Weave chain through spaces around heel.
