  2. The glowing colors of the yarns used in this
  3. afghan create excitement - & who could be
  4. chilly under this on a cold winter night? For
  5. a completely different look, substitute soft,
  6. pastel shades.
  7. SIZE
  8. 43" x 60" before fringing
  9. MATERIALS
  10. COATS & CLARK RED HEART 4-ply
  11. handknitting yarn, Art. E 267.
  12.  7 oz each of:
  13.   Vermillion #921
  14.   Jockey Red #902
  15.   Scarlet #909
  16.   Burnt Orange #255
  17.   Tangerine #253
  18.   Orange #245
  19.   Yellow #230
  20.   Maize #261
  21. Size J aluminum crochet hook (or size
  22. required for gauge)
  23. GAUGE
  24. 19 sts = 4 1/2"; 8 rows = 3"
  25. NOTE
  26. To change color at end of row, draw up lp in
  27. last st (2 lps on hook), change to new color,
  28. YO, draw through both lps, ch 1, turn.
  29. INSTRUCTIONS
  30. W/ Vermillion loosely ch 200.
  31. Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each
  32. of the next 3 chs; * sc 3 times in next ch (inc
  33. made), sc in next 8 chs, sk 2 chs (dec
  34. made), sc in next 8 chs. Rep from * 10
  35. times, ending sc 3 times in next ch, sc in
  36. each of last 4 chs; ch 1 turn.
  37. Row 2: Working in back lp only of each st,
  38. sk 1st 2 sts, sc in each of next 3 sc, * sc 3
  39. times in next sc (center st of point), sc in
  40. each of next 8 sc, sk 2 sc, sc in each of next
  41. 8 sc. Rep from * across, ending sc 3 times
  42. in next sc, sc in each of next 3 sc, sk last 2
  43. sc, sc in turning ch-1; ch 1, turn.
  44. Rep Row 2, 8 more times (10 rows
  45. Vermillion). Attach Jockey Red to last st of
  46. Row 10. Cut old color leaving a 4" yern end
  47. for weaving later.
  48. Rep Row 2 for Jockey Red for 10 rows.
  49. Attach Scarlet, rep Row 2 for 10 rows.
  50. Continue to repeat Row 2, keeping color
  51. sequence as follows; 10 rows each of Burnt
  52. Orange, Tangerine, Orange, Yellow &
  53. Maize. Afghan is now 1/2 done. Complete
  54. rest of afghan by reversing the 10-row color
  55. sequence. Weave in all loose ends.
  56. FRINGE
  57. Folow Single Knot Fringe Instructions
  58. below. W/ Vermillion, cut 16" strands & use
  59. 6 strands in each knot. Tie knots at the
  60. points across each short end of afghan.
  61. SINGLE KNOT FRINGE
  62. Hold specified # of strands for 1 knot of
  63. fringe together, the fold in 1/2. Hold afghan
  64. w/ right side facing you. Use crochet hook to
  65. draw folded end through space or stitch
  66. from right to wrong side & pull loose ends
  67. through folded section & draw knot up
  68. firmly. Space knots as indicated in pattern
  69. instructions. Trim ends of fringe evenly.
