  20.     A bit of history to the European part of DiscNet: 
  21.     Especially after Fido-Net Germany split  up, a lot of local area net-
  22.     works suddenly  appeared out of  the nothing, some with no success at 
  23.     all, some better than others.  But they all  had one thing  in common 
  24.     - none moved beyond the  European,  or  even  the German borders thus 
  25.     making  it impossible  to become  internationally recognized. Shortly 
  26.     after the split up happened , DiscNet Europe  became alive - part  of 
  27.     a steady growing, successful network that has become quite popular in 
  28.     many areas of the USA. Starting off with just one node, it soon began 
  29.     to expand and grow.

  31.     Today, DiscNet Europe has 45 Nodes across Germany; this may not sound
  32.     much, but we are only at the very beginning of a flourishing and pros-
  33.     perous multinational network without the occasional hassle in FidoNet 
  34.     due to  the restrictions  of their  Policy 4 ,  without  the  limited 
  35.     connections beyond  Germany/Europe, but  with a friendly  atmosphere, 
  36.     with a  great  variety of  topics available, with a file distribution
  37.     network.

  39.     Apart from  mandatorily increasing  the  total number  of people par-
  40.     ticipating and the steady increase of echomail flow, future plans in-
  41.     clude links to all sort of local/national/international networks: for 
  42.     netmail as well  as for  echomail. While keeping  its  individuality, 
  43.     DiscNet is to play a major role in the interlinkage of small networks.

  45.     One of the aspects now being covered  by DiscNet is the free and easy 
  46.     communication  between the young and young at heart across the world.
  47.     DiscNet is a founding member of the United Federation of Teenage Net-
  48.     works (or UFTN in abbreviated form)  whose  primary  goal  is to link
  49.     world's  Teen- and Youth-Networks  together  and  form  a  prosperous 
  50.     community where  everone  is able to communicate freely. This is just 
  51.     step one of our goal to international interconnectivity.

  94.     Etwas zur Geschichte des europäischen Teils des DiscNet:
  95.     Speziell nachdem sich Fido-Net Deutschland aufgeteilt hatte, schossen
  96.     eine Vielzahl von lokalen Netzwerken wie Pilze aus dem Boden; da sich
  97.     aber keines über  die europäische, oder auch nur  die deutsche Grenze
  98.     hinaus bewegte , konnten sich die  wenigsten wirklich erfolgreich be-
  99.     haupten und schon gar keine internationale  Akzeptanz erlangen . Kurz
  100.     nach der Fido-Teilung wurde das DiscNet Europa ins Leben gerufen; als
  101.     Teil eines ständig wachsenden, erfolgreichen Netzwerks, das in vielen
  102.     Teilen der USA schon recht populär war.

  104.     Heute besteht das DiscNet Europa aus etwa 45 Nodes und einigen Points
  105.     in ganz Deutschland - das mag jetzt nicht sehr groß klingen, aber wir
  106.     stehen erst am Anfang eines florierenden, multinationalen Netzwerkes.
  107.     Ohne die zeitweiligen Probleme, die im FidoNet durch ihr Policy4 ent-
  108.     entstehen , ohne die limitierten Anbindungen  über Deutschland/Europa
  109.     hinaus , aber mit einer  freundlichen Atmosphäre , einer Vielzahl von
  110.     verfügbaren Themen und einem File Distribution Network.

  112.     Abgesehen von  dem schon  als selbstverständlich zu bezeichnendem An-
  113.     werben neuer Mitglieder und der  ständigen Verbesserung  des Echomail
  114.     -Flows  beinhalten  Zukunftspläne  Links  zu  aller  Art von lokalen,
  115.     nationalen  und  internationalen Netzwerken  - sowohl für NetMail als
  116.     auch für  EchoMail. Während es  seine Individualität  bewahren  wird,
  117.     wird DiscNet eine große Rolle in der Verbindung von kleinen Netzwerk-
  118.     en spielen.

  120.     Einer der  Bereiche der mittlerweile  vom DiscNet abgedeckt wird, ist
  121.     die unkomplizierte Kommunikation zwischen der jüngeren Generation und
  122.     den  Junggebliebenen.  DiscNet ist ein  Gründungsmitglied  der United
  123.     Federation of Teenage Networks (kurz UFTN) dessen primäre Zielsetzung
  124.     es  ist , Netzwerke für  Teens und  Jugendliche auf globaler Ebene zu
  125.     verbinden  und  eine florierende  Gemeinschaft  zu  formieren, in der
  126.     jeder in der Lage ist, frei mit jedem zu kommunizieren.  Dies ist nur
  127.     der erste Schritt auf dem Weg zum internationalen Netzverbund.
