Feedback
(Updated 7/15/94)
This file contains a random selection of comments I received about a
previous CD-ROM, and my response or resolution to those comments. It is
not a complete log of all comments or problem reports received, just those
that seemed interesting or general enough to include, or that I thought to
save for this purpose. Each CD-ROM will have a completely new "Feedback"
file. I.E. the lifetime of these particular entries is only the next
CD-ROM from when they were received or acted on.

RE: Organization of BBS tree
After receiving numerous complaints about the structure of the BBS tree and
the complicated access method, I've decided to start using just a single
level of subdirectories for now, and to provide a sample files.bbs type
file in each such subdirectory. If the provided file is not suitable for
the particular BBS in use, the BBS operator will still have to use "pitool"
and the provided product info files to generate a suitable set of BBS
specific information files.

RE: "Contents" type files
Many users missed the older "Contents" style files. Since these used to be
hand generated, I had to stop including them once the number of things to
be described got too large.
Starting with this CD, each of the major subtrees (New, BBS, GNU, Useful,
etc) have a machine generated pair of files called "QuickRef" and
"Contents", created from information in the product info files.
The QuickRef file consists of "one line descriptions" of each individual
program or other material, for which a product info file is found. It has
the name of the program, version number, and the short description.
The Contents file is closer in structure to the old floppy disk style
Contents files, with the name of the program, version number, and short
description (as in the QuickRef files), but also including the long
description, author, and complete path to the location of the program on
the CD.

I still haven't had a chance to chase down this particular bug. It's a
relatively low priority, but I will try to get to it before the next
CD-ROM. (sure, excuses, excuses... :-)

I didn't have time to get to this for this CD-ROM. Perhaps for the
next one... (this actually is a fairly high priority...)
