  8. CharMap is a program that converts any 2-colors IFF-picture into an ASCII-text.
  9. You need at least OS2.04!

  18.
  19. CharMap,  its sourcecode  and the doc-files  are (C)opyrighted  by the  author,
  20. Hanns  Holger  Rutz.  CharMap  ist  freeware,  these  are  the  conditions  for
  21. (re-)distribution:
  22.
  23. - the commercial distribution  of CharMap is prohibited.  You may not raise any
  24.   fee for it.  The exception is the distribution of CharMap on a freely distri-
  25.   butable series.
  26. - to distribute CharMap on a fd-series, you have to get a personal licence from
  27.   the author. If you have one, CharMap is to be distributed under the Copyright
  28.   conditions of the certain series.
  29. CharMap may only be distributed with all the neccessary files, which are:
  30.
  31.     CharMap      the executable;
  32.     CharMap.doc  the English doc-file;
  33.   and/or
  34.     CharMap.dok  the German doc-file;
  35.
  36.   The  distribution  of the  sourcecode  is optional.  Yet,  it has  to be kept
  37.   together with the files mentioned above.
  38.
  39.     THE AUTHOR, HANNS HOLGER RUTZ, IS NOT RESPONSIBLE AT ALL FOR ANY DAMAGE
  40.        CAUSED BY THIS PROGRAM, THE USER TAKES THE RISC HIM- OR HERSELF!
  41.
  42.  Using the program                                                          42
  43.
  44. CharMap has to be started from the Shell. This is the usage:
  45.   CharMap <ILBM> <Target> [<Font> SIZE <Height>] [ANSI]
  46.
  47.   <ILBM>                Name of the IFF-picture  to be converted.  It must have
  48.                         2 colors.  The size is not limited,  though,  note that
  49.                         the right and bottom  margin may  not be converted com-
  50.                         pletely,  if the  width  is no multiple  of the  font's
  51.                         width  or the  height  is no  multiple  of  the  font's
  52.                         height.  You should design  your picture  to fit  these
  53.                         values or have  enough space  at the right  and bottom.
  54.                         Otherwise  you might get angry  when you find out  that
  55.                         CharMap didn't convert the whole picture.
  56.   <Target>              Name of the file CharMap writes the ASCII-text to.
  57.   <Font> SIZE <Height>  Font  that should  be used.  Proportional  fonts aren't
  58.                         allowed  (that is,  fonts whose chars differ in width).
  59.                         Defaults to the ROM-font "topaz.font" (height 8).
  60.   ANSI                  This switch allows CharMap to use the ANSI command that
  61.                         swaps the foreground- and backgroundcolor  (<CSI>7m and
  62.                         <CSI>27m).  On  the  one  hand  you  often  get  better
  63.                         results, on the other hand your text becomes longer. In
  64.                         order to make  future changes  of the text  more  easy,
  65.                         each line  begins  and ends  with an  ANSI command  for
  66.                         reverse-text  on  or off.  The created text may be dis-
  67.                         played in your Shell or using MuchMore etc.
  68.
  69. The calculation can be aborted by clicking on the right mousebutton or pressing
  70. CTRL+C if the  Shell-window is active.  When the calculation  is finished,  the
  71. program waits for mouseclick or CTRL+C in the Shell. The returncodes are:
  72.
  73.  0  Conversion done without errors;
  74.  5  User-break;
  75. 20  Error occured;
  76.
