  12. DFA is the ultimate address utility for every AMIGA computer that
  13. runs at least Workbench 2.0. Native languages are supported as soon
  14. as one has installed Workbench 2.1 and above; Workbench 3.0 will be
  15. supported, if is available.
  16.  
  17. DFA is not like any other address tool. It is an ideal combination
  18. of a lot of features and an easy to use program. Inspite of this
  19. combination it tries to use even less RAM than former versions of
  20. DFA
  21.  
  22. DFA has an Arexx port that understands many commands. They give you
  23. full access to DFA out of every other programm with an Arexx port.
  24. Especially import and export of addresses can be done very easily
  25. using the Arexx port. Arexx scripts may be called directly out of
  26. DFA. You may assign an Arexx script to every function key.
  27.  
  28. DFA supports up to three email addresses - you can even call an
  29. external mail editor and DFA gives the desired email address to it
  30. (using Arexx).

  32. DFA can dial the stored telefone numbers - even more than one
  33. number per entry is possible.
  34.  
  35. DFA can print the addresses using different formats: Long list,
  36. short list, telephone list, address labels and address cards.
  37.  
  38. DFA's windows are all fully font sensitive and the main window is
  39. adjustable via the sizing gadget! All functions can not only be
  40. invoked by mouse but by keyboard also.
  41.  
  42. DFA supports the locale library that is included in Workbench 2.1
  43. and above. Supported languages are Danish, Dutch, English, Finnish,
  44. French, German, Italian, Swedish up to now. All shortcuts are
  45. localized as well!

  47. DFA supports some new "features" if running under OS 3.0 and above
  48. ("New Look" menus, scaled MX/Checkbox gadgets, nicer listview,...).

  50. DFA supplies context sensitive online help, which gives you the
  51. proper help text out of every DFA related window.

  53. DFA comes along with comprehensive AMIGAGUIDE and TEX
  54. documentation; both english and german
  55.  
  56. Registered users will get a keyfile that enables saving of the
  57. DFA-Preferences, which is disabled in the public release.

  59. DFA should be installed using the provided install script. The
  60. installer program ((c) Commodore) is included!

  62. NEW FEATURES
  63.  
  64. - Extended client server mechanism. DFA consists of a server, an
  65. editor and a preferences program.
  66.  
  67. - All program parts that are used by more than one of the programs
  68. mentioned above have been exported into a shared library, the
  69. 'dfa.library'.
  70.  
  71. - Every address can get up to 8 group flags, which makes it
  72. possible to select the addresses you want to get displayed.

  74. - The Arexx port has been rewritten from scratch, using the
  75. Arexxbox V1.12 by M. Balzer. Several new functions have been added
  76. and some of the existing ones have been improved.
  77.  
  78. - The main window is no longer closed and opened again, if you
  79. resize it. The layout calculation in this window has been optimized
  80. as well, so it looks much better now.

  82. - The buttons at the right side of the main window (V1.2x) have
  83. been put into a toolbox, i.e. a separate small window. This window
  84. may be closed. All these functions can be reached via menu items
  85. additionally.

  87. - The listview that displayes the address list can be configured in
  88. several ways: You can not only tell DFA which fields you want to
  89. get displayed, but you may even tell how much of the available
  90. space you want to use for this field AND and in which of the up to
  91. 8 columns this field has to be displayed
  92.  
  93. - The text gadgets near the buttom of the main window (V1.2x) have
  94. been replaced with a listview, called the panel listview. This
  95. solution is much more flexible than the text gadgets. You can not
  96. only tell DFA which fields you want to see within the up to 16
  97. lines, you may even change the lines' title to fit your needs.
  98.  
  99. - Two new fields have been added: c/o and state. Especially the
  100. state field may be very useful in countries that either need this
  101. particular information OR are used to place their ZIP/PC behind the
  102. city name.
  103.  
  104. - Every address item now may have one external file attached to it!
  105. This may be used to store additional information that would not
  106. have enough space within the usual address fields.
  107.  
  108. - The search function got improved funtionality: Now you may toggle
  109. each field to be searched through.
  110.  
  111. - The dial function was rewritten from scratch and has much better
  112. functionality now: You may dial the active or all marked entries,
  113. you may use programs like the 'getty' at the same time, as DFA now
  114. supports the 'OwnDevUnit' library, The dial function got its own
  115. window (no longer a simple requester) that give you much more
  116. information. You may set the number of retries and a redial delay.
  117. The modem status as e.g. 'BUSY', 'NO DIALTOME', etc. is detected as
  118. well.
  119.  
  120. - The load and most of all the save routine have been rewritten
  121. from scratch and are much faster now.
  122.  
  123. - The internal memory usage for the storage of address data has
  124. been optimzed, which means that you now need less RAM to store your
  125. addresses than in DFA V1.2x, in spite of the new address fields!
  126.  
  127. - The usage of memory pools sped up some parts of DFA noticably and
  128. decreases memory fragmentation.
  129.  
  130. - DFA is able to supply a simple network mechanism that makes sure
  131. that several people that use the same address file within a LAN do
  132. not overwrite each other's changes of the address file.

  134. - The one preferences window of DFA V1.2 was replaced by a separate
  135. DFA preferences program (10 windows). This does not only mean that
  136. you may start this program seperately (even if no other part of DFA
  137. is running), but there are much more settings you may change:

  141. -*- Icon generation can be toggled
  142.  
  143. -*- The address listview (see above)
  144.  
  145. -*- The panel listview (see above)
  146.  
  147. -*- The groups' names and shortcuts

  149. -*- The  fonts, i.e. you  may either use the system's default fonts or
  150. select the fonts of your choice.

  152. -*- Additional  modem  settings,  incl. the possiblility to toggle the
  153. usage of the 'OwnDevUnit' library.

  155. -*- Important  path  and  file  names  used  by DFA: I.e. the  default
  156. address file, the directory for the external files as well as  the
  157. ASCII editor and the ASCII viewer used for the external files.
  158.  
  159. -*- The arexx commands that are bound to the function keys.
  160.  
  161. -*- The sorting. I.e. your address can be sorted by any field you wish
  162. now.
  163.  
  164. -  Last  but  not least the complete DFA distribution comes along with

  173. unregistered version.

  175. Requires Amiga-OS 2.0 (V37). Runs on all Amiga computers (500+,
  176. 600, 1200, 3000, 4000) with this OS (or a newer one) installed.
