- ABOUT THIS PROGRAM
- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- Name : TidyApp
- Version : 1.01 (04 Mar 1995)
- Purpose : Tidy application files
- Author : Andrew Berry
- Licence : Freeware. Please see conditions at the end of this file.
-
-
- PURPOSE
- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
- TidyApp is a small utility designed to tidy the names of application files.
- The filenames in many applications are the wrong case, eg !boot or !RUN.
- They still work correctly because filenames are not case sensitive, but
- they can look untidy. This program is designed to cure this by renaming all
- files in an application directory which is dragged to it.
-
-
- USING THE PROGRAM
- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
- The section of the window with the heading 'Default filenames' contains 15
- filenames which are usually found in application directories. Each name
- has an option button which can be turned on or off. When a particular
- option button is turned on then the corresponding file will be renamed.
- The three buttons with the yellow background turn on all the options, turn
- them all off and toggle each option's state. To tidy an application select
- which files you want to rename and drag the application onto the TidyApp
- icon on the icon bar, or the main window. If a selected file isn't found in
- the application directory then no error will be given, so in normal use all
- the names will be turned on. It will only be necessary to turn off certain
- names if you want to prevent a file from being renamed.
-
- ENTERING NEW NAMES
- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
- I've tried to include all filenames which are present in application
- directories. However, because new files may become standard or the user may
- want to add their own names, I've included three spaces for 'User names'.
- The three writeable icons to the top right of the window are for this
- purpose. Any filename can be typed here, up to ten characters long. If the
- user option button corresponding to that icon is selected then any files
- with that name will be renamed. For instance, 'MyFile' could be entered
- and all files called 'myfile' or 'myFile' would be renamed to 'MyFile'.
- Let me know if I've missed out any common filenames and I'll add them in a
- future version to save entering them as a user name.
-
-
- OPTIONS
- --------------------------------------------------------------------------- The two options below the user filenames are 'Confirm' and 'Force access'.
- When confirm is selected the user will be asked whether they are sure they
- want to rename each application which is dragged onto the program. Force
- access will ignore any access settings, for instance locked files, and will
- set the access details to WR/ before renaming. If Force Access is turned
- off then locked files and files without owner write access will not be
- renamed. However, no error is given in these cases.
-
- A future version will implement saving of all options, including the
- current selection of filenames and any user names. At the moment the 'Save
- options' button does nothing, and is greyed out.

- HISTORY
- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
- 1.00 (18 Dec 1994) : • The first version, fully working.
- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
- 1.01 (04 Mar 1995) : • Redesigned main window
- • Now loads !Sprites from !Run as well as !Boot
-
-
- THINGS TO DO
- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
- • Save options to disc, including file selection and user names.
- • More intelligent error handling. Will report message if 'force access'
- was turned off and some locked files were not renamed.
- • Possibly a 'Verbose' option with a filer-type window showing progress.
- • Multi-tasking renaming for groups of applications?
- • If a directory is dragged to TidyApp then it could be searched for
- applications to tidy.
