- Tau, version 1.20
-
- Desktop graph preparation software. Tau generates publication-quality graphs
- in the form of Draw files, ready to import into your favourite word-processor
- or DTP. A data worksheet (16 columns by 2048 rows) can be filled by keying-
- in, importing from a file, and/or calculation. You determine line patterns
- and thicknesses, text positioning and font sizes, etc. The data worksheet can
- be redimensioned, if you would prefer more rows of data for example.

-
- Changes since version 1.10
-
- * The size of the data worksheet has been doubled (default 2048 rows and
- 16 columns).
- * The dimensions of the worksheet can be changed by the user, provided the
- total number of cells does not exceed 2048x16, and the number of columns
- does not exceed 64.
- * The internal format of the TauFile and TauStyle files has been changed
- to accommodate the resizable worksheet. Old format files are compatible
- with the new version of Tau.
- * The "Plot (many)" option allows the user to change the plot styles of
- a number of columns in one go.
- * A number of bugs have been fixed.

- Chris Pannell for suggestions, and for acting as a RISC OS 2 guinea pig.
-
- Alban Killingback for access to a RISC OS 2 machine; and the former denizens
- of room 328, where that machine was kept, for their patience.
-
- Various users, for reports of bugs and suggestions for improvements.

-
- I wrote Tau because I needed to prepare x-y graphs for publication in
- scientific journals and reports. The alternative was a PC, Harvard Graphics™,
- and sticky tape. Hence it is geared towards the production of a relatively
- small number of graphs with the maximum of user control over such niggly
- things as line thicknesses and dash patterns. Of course the results still
- leave scope for improvement, but that can always be done in !Draw. Note also
- the complete lack of junk such as pie charts and the like - if you want pie
- charts, you are probably in advertising or marketing, so go use Harvard :-).
-
- Tau is written in BBC Basic V on a 2Mb Acorn A4000 computer with RISC OS 3.1.
- I have tried it out with RISC OS 2 and it seems to work OK - the problem
- with the Save dialogue box has been fixed.
-
- This version of Tau is bug-ridden and incomplete. I finished writing Tau in
- September 1993, but didn't release it until August 1994 because of its
- general bugginess. However, it does all that I want it to, after a fashion,
- and I have very little time to improve it. If you have any constructive
- criticism, bug reports, or suggestions for features you think would be
- useful, please get in touch.
