- Spex version 1.02
- -----------------
-
- This is a textfile reader, or in the words of my RE
- teacher, a font scroller. All it does is load in a
- textfile and display it in a window, with the option
- of flipping through it page by page manually, or
- getting the program to do it for you. You can also
- save individual pages or the whole document.
- Documents of up to 1386 lines of 76 characters can
- be loaded, which is a very long textfile!
-
- Once the textfile is loaded, you can edit the text
- in the window. This can then be saved as normal.
- If you do edit the text, the changes cannot be
- undone unless you reload the file.
-
- This program is RISC OS 3 only, as I believe that
- as RISC OS 2 is no longer made, and most people have
- upgraded, it is not worth going to the trouble of
- providing 'extra' bits for out-of-date operating
- systems. Thus, even attempting to load it on the
- old OS will cause an error to occur, luckily not a
- fatal one.
-
- Options at the top of the window
- --------------------------------
-
- Lefthand : The arrows flip through the pages one
- by one, and you can skip to a specified
- page simply by typing in its number and
- pressing RETURN.
-
- Righthand: The alarm clock opens the page turner
- when you click on it.
-
- The disc icon saves the current page to
- disc, using a standard save box.
-
- The textfile icon saves the whole
- document to disc, also using a standard
- save box.
-
- The righthand arrow scrolls to the end
- of the file.
-
- The lefthand arrow scrolls to the
- beginning of the file.
-
- Options in the alarm dialogue box
- ---------------------------------
-
- Delay : Sets up the delay between pages in seconds.
- Write this in the writable icon between
- 'Start' and 'seconds'.
-
- Repeat: If turned on then when the turner reaches
- the end of the file it will start again at
- page one.
-
- Start : Starts the whole thing going. Pressing
- RETURN in the writable icon also sets it up.
-
- Iconbar menu
- ------------
-
- Info : Leads to a dialogue box giving information
- about the program (e.g. version number).
- Clicking on the icons in here will produce
- instructions on where to find further
- information, and maybe a picture of me as
- well!
-
- Quit : Quits the program. Quite self-explanatory
- really.
-
- Window menu
- -----------
-
- Pause : Pauses the timer.
-
- Continue: Continues the timer. If the timer is not
- paused, it flips to the next page.
-
- Abort : Cancels the timer altogether.
-
- Known bugs
- ----------
-
- NONE!!! I cannot STAND imperfect programs!!
-
- Future upgrades
- ---------------
-
- 1. Functions for printing the current page direct
- to the printer. At the moment, you have to choose
- the 'Save page' option and drag the icon to the
- printer driver. The same goes for the whole file.
-
- 2. Anti-aliased text. I think that will be several
- years ahead somehow, as I haven't a CLUE how to
- handle font menus or anti-aliased icons from C.
-
- 3. ???
-
- History
- -------
-
- 1.00 Well, its the first version for a start. Any
- more explaining needed?
-
- 1.01 Text editing made possible.
-
- 1.02 Rewind/Forward-wind icons included, as well as
- repeat facility.
-
- IMPORTANT NOTE
- --------------
-
- This program is ShareWare. This means that if you
- like it you can send me some money. Simple really.
- I have a friend who has some games on the
- Amiga (ugh!) ShareWare market, and so far has only
- received half a polo mint for his efforts. I hope
- that kind, considerate Archimedes users like you
- are a bit less tight-fisted!
-
- Anyway, if you send me money, it puts you on the
- list for future upgrades. Your money would cover the
- cost of a disc to put it on (about £2 including p&p)
- meaning you would get the newer versions much
- quicker than anyone else.
-
- Comments (and money of course) should be sent to:
-
- Richard Holland
- 27 Lordsfield Gardens
- Overton
- Near Basingstoke
- Hampshire RG25 3EW
- ENGLAND
-
- Please don't forget to enclose your address so I can
- send you upgrades/replies.
-
- Hope you like it. See you for now!
-
- PS. If you really want to see what I look like, try
- clicking on the 'Author' field of the 'Info'
- box from the iconbar menu.
-
- PPS. A really awful joke:
- Q. What do computers have with their fish?
- A. Microchips! (groan groan...)
