- New Secure Flag in LogFS v1.20
- ------------------------------
-
- The Filer Windows in RiscOs are very powerful and
- serve the following functions:-
-
- • Launch applications.
- • Destination for Save drags.
- • Housekeeping (Copy, Rename, Delete, etc.)
-
- LogFS is designed primarily to replace the first
- function. Unfortunately the Housekeeping functions
- may be abused either maliciously or unintentionally.
- When LogFS is in Secure mode it goes some way in
- restricting the unlimited access which RiscOs
- provides.
-
- Secure mode LogFS does 3 things for you:-
-
- • Clicking Shift-Double-Click on an application
- no longer works, does not open the underlying
- directory.
-
- • Clicking Shift-Double-Click on an application
- in a filer window no longer works.
-
- • Any Directories opened by clicking on a
- directory icon on any card will open a
- 'rooted' filer window, that is the 'Open Parent'
- entry on its menu will be greyed out and an
- Adjust-Click on the Close Icon will not open
- the parent directory. Directories below the
- rooted directory will behave as normal.
-
- • Only one rooted parent directory will be opened
- at once (many child directories may be
- opened). When a new root directory is opened
- all the filer windows for the previous root
- will automatically close.
-
- To turn the secure option on you have to edit the
- settings file by inserting the line "Flags=Secure;"
- near the top of the file.
-
- Of course this security is worth nothing if the
- Hard Disk icon is on the Icon Bar, the user can
- just click on this to get access to the whole
- disk!!. To remove this icon just type:-
-
- RMKILL SCSIFiler or
- RMKILL IDEFiler or
- RMKILL ADFSFiler (will also remove floppy icon)
-
- depending on what filing system your hard disk
- uses. LogFS and all other applications will continue
- to work normally. Do not RMKILL Filer itself or
- they won't!!
-
- Access to the whole disk is still available from
- the command line, but there are several utilities
- which block access to this.
