  7. This program runs itself as soon as the Filer displays its icon. So, if
  8. there's a nice little icon instead of the grotty Acorn 'application' icon,
  9. DOSCom is active and you can launch into a extravaganza of typing weird and
  10. wonderful MS-DOS commands at yout friendly Supervisor prompt.
  11. Oh, I've not explained what DOSCom does. Whoops. Here goes ...

  13. This application simply allows the basic commands used to move around UNIX,
  14. MS-DOS and  AmigaDOS operating systems to be recognised by RISC OS.
  15.  
  16. For instance, to change directory from the command line in RISC OS you'd
  17. normally type DIR.  However, on a PC you would type CD.  Users of FTP on the
  18. Internet will find that this is  commonly used because most (if not all) FTP
  19. sites are running UNIX which also uses this CD command.

  21. Got it? No? Let's give an example. If you type something like:

  23.          CD $.GAMES  <Enter>
  24.          
  25. You would find yourself in the '$.Games' directory of your disc. 
  26.  
  27. DOSCom is currently under development and will support lots more commands in
  28. future  releases which are inevitable. At the moment, the following commands
  29. are recognised:
  30.  
  31.   CD   ----- Change directory
  32.   DEL ------ Delete a file
  33.   CHKDSK --- Verify a disc
  34.   CHDIR ---- Change directory
  35.   RMDIR ---- Delete a directory
  36.   RD ------- Delete a directory (identical to RMDIR)
  37.   DISKCOPY - Floppy to floppy disc copy
  38.   XCOPY ---- Copy files
  39.   C -------- Points to IDEFS::4
  40.  
  41. Using these commands means that you can type CD C:$ to change to the root
  42. directory of the hard disc. Not exactly the same as CD C:\ but it's more
  43. recognisable to the hardened DOS user than DIR IDEFS::4.$.
  44.  
  45. Unfortunately the more advanced 'switches' that these commands offer in
  46. MS-DOS are not  recognised by DOSCom, so leave them out.
