  14. !Compactor was made simply because using the LZW modules
  15. from Basic is a bit of a pain, to say the least!  To use it
  16. is simple, just drag a file onto the icon with either
  17. Compact or Decompact written underneath it, depending on the
  18. action you wish to take.
  19.  
  20. There are three options to choose from the menu:
  21.   
  22. Iconbar: Lets you to toggle whether or not Compactor has an
  23. icon on the iconbar.
  24.  
  25. Use buffer: Lets you to load the file into memory and
  26. (de)compact it from there.  This is useful if you wish to
  27. save the resulting file under the same name, as the LZW
  28. modules do not let you do this.

  30. Header: Tells Compactor to save any compacted files under
  31. the filetype &ffd and place at the top of the file the
  32. original filetype, together with a header (Comp).  This way
  33. Compactor can always be sure whether or not a file is
  34. compacted already or not.  Because of the way it works, 'Use
  35. buffer' must also be enabled, but do not worry, clicking on
  36. 'Header' turns it on for you!

  38. To obtain further help you can use !Help, supplied on the
  39. Applications Disc 1.

  49. profit unless otherwise agreed by the author(s).

  52. the files are modified or missing (i.e. give it to other
  53. people the in the same condition as you received it!).

  56. that I can keep track of the current version number.

  58. 4. Under no circumstances can the author(s) be responsible
  59. for any loss of files, profit etc. caused through the use of
  60. any part of the !Compactor software.

  62. 5. The 'I' in the version number means that this program
  63. supports the Interface module by Simon Huntington, which is
  64. an absoloute must if you want to give a profesional feel to
  65. your programs.

  67. 6. The filetype &ffd is only used because I cannot be
  68. bothered to get a filetype allocated from Acorn, but you can
  69. change the entry 'Compacted:' in Messages to a different
  70. one.  If you are using your own filetype then a suitable
  71. sprite for it is included in !Sprites as 'compedfile'.

  73. 7. I have implemented what I remember about RISC OS 3
  74. application writing (I had access to an A5000 for a short
  75. while!), and therefore it is hopefully fully compliant,
  76. however if you have a problem, the address is at the bottom
  77. of this file.
