Help File for !VideoBase v2.11
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Videobase is an application to keep track of recordings and free spaces on a
collection of video tapes. It is designed to make maintaining the database as
easy as possible and to avoid the possibility of inappropriate inputs.
It uses a filetype of &344 by default at the moment which is NOT Acorn
approved. Now that the design of the file format is stable I will be applying
for an official filetype number.
Please read the manual provided for full details about this program (double
click on the 'Manual' file or drag it to a suitable text editor).
Conditions of Use
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
This application is supplied to everyone 'as is', I do not give any
guarantee that it is free of bugs, or supply any warranty about its
suitability for use. However if there are any problems with it and you
notify me of them then I will do my best to rectify them given the time and
the ability.
This program is ShareWare. Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of
software. You should find software that suits your needs and pocketbook,
whether it's commercial or Shareware. The Shareware system makes fitting your
needs easier, because you can try before you buy. And because the overhead is
low, prices are low also. Shareware has the ultimate money-back guarantee -- if
you don't use the product, you don't pay for it. Details on how to register
your copy - which will disable the start up banner - can be found in the
manual.
You may give this application to anyone, via any medium but I maintain
copyright on all the material supplied.

In the absence of any comments I shall assume the program is perfect and get
on with something a bit more interesting!
Update History
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
2.00 - Initial release
2.01 - Missing sprites added to '!Sprites22' and 'Sprites22' files
- Bug fix for error when quitting application with unsaved
data (pre Risc PC machines only)
- Bug fix for error when adding first tape to a new database
(pre Risc PC machines only)
- Updating of 'Free spaces' pane was not working when a new
length was input
- Loading of native filetype files speeded up
- Selection of records in the main window no longer redraws
the entire window everytime
- Slowed down saving and modifying by checking that datafile is
not corrupted each time it changes (better safe than sorry!)
- Saving the file under a new name now changes the main window
title bar to the new name
- Length of last record on tape can be altered to change length
of tape (if a non-standard length for example)
- Null wimp events now only claimed when required, makes whole
desktop more responsive
2.02 - Typing 'E200' or '200' for example now handled correctly when
adding a new tape with a custom length
- Zero length new tapes trapped
- Problem with 'Delete tape' and 'Renumber tape' dboxes not
responding to icon clicks fixed (waiting for a null poll event
when null polling was disabled)
- Loading a file closes the 'Delete tape' dbox if it is open
- Bug fix for error on pre-Risc PC machines when adding first
recording to a new database
- 'Sprites', 'Sprites22' and 'Templates' files corrected to
remove references to non-existant sprites
- Interactive help for 'Options' dbox corrected
- Tape id bump icons were not working in 'Renumber tape' dbox
- Deleting last tape in database now handled ok
- Tape makes are actually stored in the file now and displayed
on the button bar as is the tape length
- Added 'Renumber tape' and 'Interactive help' buttons to the
button bar
- Fixed bug when desktop font was changed on a Risc PC
- Fixed bug that prevented dragging the report file icon direct
to an editor
2.03 - Increased maximum nr of characters allowed in 'Selection'
dbox writable icons (was 16, now 256)
- Fixed bug whereby renumbering a tape did not update the 'Tape
id' menu
2.10 - Added 'Scratchpad' option to main menu. This opens a scratchpad
dbox which stores the contents of writable icons dragged to
it. Text in the scratchpad can be dragged to writable icons
in other dboxes as well. This is rather half-hearted as I think
now a separate application would be better - however it was
easy to do so there it is..
- Changing the length of a tape now alters the length of the last
recording on the tape providing it is a gap and is long enough
i.e. no actual recording would be effected by the tape length
change
- Tape make now defaults to 'Unknown' in 'Add new tape' box
- A file can now be linked to each recording and displayed by
clicking on 'Notes...' in the 'Edit recording' dbox. The file can
be of any type and of any length. The absolute path name is stored
(at the moment..)
- Sprites and Templates tidied up
- Error when saving report options before 'Options' box has been
opened fixed
- Implemented 'tab stop' for the position of the 'Subject' area in
the main window. Clicking SELECT on the header bar sets the
display area for titles. This setting is also saved with the rest
of the options
- Added option to turn off the movement of the mouse pointer when
a popup menu opens (in 'Options' dbox, new default is not to move
the pointer)
- Deleting a recording now updates the list of gaps in the 'Find
space' dbox
- Clicking on a action button in dboxes opened off the main menu now
closes the menu tree
- Added buttons for editing menu configuration files to the 'Options'
dbox
- The 'Editing free space' window now takes the length of the new
recording from the length input in the 'Find space' dbox (instead
of making the length the same as the selected gap)
- Entering a new recording without a title trapped
- Bug fix to 'Report' dbox. Now creates report file correctly if
opened from main menu first
- ADJUST clicks in dboxes now have the expected effect (action is
carried out but dbox is not closed)
- Attempts to overwrite existing recordings by editing the length of
the previous recording now trapped
- Clicking in the main window now gains the input focus and the title
bar background colour changes as per the Style Guide
- Editing a recording can now be started with a double SELECT click
in the main window as well as SHIFT-SELECT
- Added 'Notes..' icon to button bar and 'Add tape' dbox for a file
linked to the tape
- When editing a free space record the title and subject field in the
dbox are now cleared
- Bug concerning merging gap records when SP/LP setting is changed fixed
- Options dialogue box can now be opened from the button bar
- 'Free spaces' dialogue box now shows spaces that are suitable for
a new recording but have a different SP/LP. Selecting one of these
spaces changes them automatically to the correct SP/LP setting
- ID of last displayed tape is now stored in datafile and is redisplayed
when the file is loaded
2.11 - Bug fix to 'Selection' sub menu (was causing PROC/FN not found error)
