  14.  The directory 'Horses' contains three new screensavers compatible with
  15.  only registered version of DarkHorse screensaver, ver 1.00 +.
  16.  
  17.  If you use an unregistered (tut! tut!) version of DarkHorse 1.00 +, you
  18.  will be able to install these savers, but will be limited in use. (see
  19.  below for installing new savers). Once installed, an unregistered version
  20.  will allow you to load the savers as normal, but will only allow you to
  21.  use them once, after which they will be automatically removed from the
  22.  savers list. In this way, at least you get a taster of what DarkHorse
  23.  can do. For a fully compatible version of DarkHorse you will need to
  24.  register yourself as a user.
  25.  
  26.  I'll explain how to register in a moment, but first - for those who don't
  27.  know what DarkHorse is :

  30.  DarkHorse
  31.  ~~~~~~~~~ 
  32.  DarkHorse is a fully multitasking programmable screensaver for the Acorn
  33.  Archimedes, Risc PC and compatible computers. It's main features are :
  34.  
  35.  . totally multitasking, allowing other apps to run while blanking.
  36.  . uses much less memory than other fancy screen savers. (only 32k app.)
  37.  . does NOT require external modules eg Clib,FPE,Interface etc..
  38.  . all savers are Arm coded.
  39.  . provides facility to pass arguments to savers.
  40.  . online help on each saver.
  41.  . password facility to protect your machine.
  42.  . keyboard shortcuts.
  43.  . easy to select required saver.
  44.  . sleep/no sleep corners.
  45.  . ability to disable saver.
  46.  . handles all screen modes/palettes/border/colours properly.
  47.  . and ofcourse protects your monitor.

  49.  DarkHorse screensaver is Copyright KOOL 1993,1994,1995. 
  50.  It is classed as shareware, which means that if you use it, you need
  51.  register yourself as a user with us.

  56.  How to obtain DarkHorse
  57.  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

  59.    Unregistered version
  60.    --------------------
  61.    An unregistered version of DarkHorse is available from PD libraries
  62.    (ie A.P.D.L, Arch-Angel etc), from public-fileservers, bulettin boards
  63.    or directly from us by sending a stamped SAE and a blank disk to the
  64.    above address.
  65.                       
  66.    This unregistered version will only provide limilted usage of new savers
  67.    like the ones included with this text, but does allow you to try
  68.    DarkHorse before registering. As stated above, DarkHorse is shareware,
  69.    so this unregistered version should only be used on a trial basis after
  70.    which, you must register if you wish to continue using DarkHorse.

  72.    Registered version
  73.    ------------------
  74.    To obtain a registered version of DarkHorse, which will allow you to
  75.    run any screensavers including the ones supplied with this text, you
  76.    need to register yourself as a user of DarkHorse.
  77.                         
  78.    Registration costs only £9.00 sterling.

  80.    When you do register I will send you a disk containing your personal
  81.    registered copy of DarkHorse embedded with your name and personal
  82.    registration code and fill the rest of the disk with other goodies.
  83.    On top of that, the version of DarkHorse you receive will be latest,
  84.    with all the current savers.

  86.    By registering you will be entitled to free upgrades on request and be
  87.    given as much support as necessary for you do utilise Dark Horse to
  88.    it's maximum capabilities. It also gives me the incentive to continue 
  89.    developing Dark Horse.

  104.  The New Savers
  105.  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  106.  Please note, the new savers supplied with this text will only run on
  107.  versions of DarkHorse 1.00 and up. Keep an eye out for new savers
  108.  cropping up in PD libraries, Bulletin boards and Public fileservers.
  109.  
  110.  The new savers included are inside the directory 'Horses'. To install
  111.  them into your personal registered DarkHorse, open up the !DarkHorse
  112.  application directory by holding down shift and double clicking on
  113.  !DarkHorse. Now open up the 'Horses' directory from within the directory
  114.  !DarkHorse, this should contain a handful of saver files already. Now
  115.  open up the 'Horses' directory as supplied with this text and copy all
  116.  of these files into your '!DarkHorse.Horses' directory.

  118.  Now you can load up !DarkHorse as normal, the list of savers from the
  119.  options window should now include the following new savers :

  123.  Name : AcornUser
  124.  
  125.  Author : K.S.Pardesi

  127.  Description : This saver plots a simplified version of the Acorn User
  128.             logo about the screen. The argument indicates the
  129.                number of images displayed before clearing the screen.

  131.                This saver may well need the Colour_Trans module
  132.                loaded for it to work if using RISCOS 2.

  134.  ---------------------------------------------------------------------

  136.  Name : Rosette
  137.  
  138.  Author : Unknown ... this saver was emailed to me a while ago,
  139.                       please can the author contact me.
  140.  
  141.  Description : This saver spins a circle of coloured dots leaving a
  142.             pleasing trail of patterns. This saver takes no
  143.             arguments. It looks best in screen modes with 256 or
  144.             more colours.

  149.

  153.  Description : Same as Stars, except the stars are drawn a fraction

  161.  textfile 'Manual' from directory 'Docs' as supplied with your copy of
  162.  DarkHorse. If you still encounter problems, write or email to the above

  165.  I am eager to get other users to write DarkHorse screensavers. It's
  166.  not very difficult if you can program in assembly - and even if you're
  167.  still learning, it's a good opportunity to try your hand at something
  168.  which can be used by others. If my instructions in the text 'FileFormat'
  169.  are too complicated (shouldn't be), or there's something you don't
  170.  understand, don't hesitate to contact me. If you have any ideas for a
  171.  new screensaver, let me know about that too. Any coders who produce
  172.  usable screensavers will be entitled to a free registered copy of
  173.  DarkHorse.
