  5.                         PHYSICS DEMONSTRATION PROGRAMS

  8.    Glasgow University has the largest Physics Department in Scotland and 
  9. one of the  largest  in UK.  We  offer  a wide selection  of  courses  and 
  10. options in  all  branches  of  physics and astronomy, ranging from theories 
  11. of the origin of the Universe to practical applications of electronics  and
  12. lasers. Physics can be combined with many other subjects - not just 
  13. Mathematics or Electronic Engineering but even Music or Philosophy.

  15.    Computational techniques are an important part of modern physics and the 
  16. department has course options in this area. The main language used is 'C' 
  17. written on PC's and Acorn computers.  Many students choose to do computing 
  18. projects in their third year.
  19.  
  20.    These programs were originally written to demonstrate some of the
  21. concepts  in the undergraduate lecture courses given in our department. They
  22. were coded  in BASIC by  Dr Sandy Watt as part of an ongoing computer
  23. assisted learning  programme. They proved  to  be useful both as  lecturing 
  24. aids and also for  students to experiment with themselves and have generally
  25. been well received.

  27.    They are being distributed in the hope that they will be equally useful
  28. to  other educational establishments. The applications are freeware. They
  29. may be  spread freely with all files (including  this plug for  Glasgow 
  30. University)  intact. They may not be used or distributed for profit.
