- This is EditLex, part of PenFriend
- © Design Concept
- by Roger Spooner
-
- ----------------------------------------------
-
- This program will allow you to load and save
- predictive typer lexicons for PenFriend and 'PAL'
- (on the IBM PC).
-
- You should not run EditLex at the same time as
- PenFriend. This is because you may lose your work
- when PenFriend quits and saves its lexicon over the
- one on disc.
-
- To load a file, drag it in to the main EditLex
- window. To save it, drag it from the appropraite
- box on the menu of that window.
-
- Words which are typed in by the user when PenFriend
- is in use are tagged as being unverified. This
- allows an experienced user (teacher) to check
- through all 'New Words' from the corresponding menu
- entry. This allows you to acknowledge a word or
- remove it from the lexicon. Thus spelling mistakes
- and inappropriate words can be missed out. You can
- even change the spelling without altering the
- frequency of use, or alter just the frequency.
-
- To check a single word, click on it with the left
- hand mouse button.
-
- If a lexicon is known to be correct, you can accept
- all the words without going through them
- individually. Similarly, you can mark all words as
- invalid by choosing the appropriate menu option.
-
- To learn all the words in a text file (any word
- processed file once saved as plain text), drag the
- file in to the editor window. This can be done for
- several files if desired.
-
- Many future enhancements are planned for this
- Editor program
-
- The main lexicon for the PenFriend program is stored
- in as 'MainLex' in the !PenFriend application
- directory. To get at it, hold down shift and double
- click on the !PenFriend application. The MainLex
- file is automatically loaded when you run PenFriend.
