- HOT OFF THE PRESS - BOOKMAKER AND BOOKWORM
- © RESOURCE and Keyboard Technology Ltd.
-
- Please find enclosed a pre-release demonstration copy of BookMaker. Some
- functions are not implemented on this demo version - print, save, fonts, and
- notepad. Mainly because we hope you like it enough to buy a copy! The full
- release version will also include 'BookWorm' to read books or display pages
- in a carousel. A talking BookMaker module will be released later in the
- year.
-
- Well designed software should need very little in the way of documentation,
- but just a few notes to get you started.
-
- Click on !System. Double click !Bookmaker to load the application onto the
- icon bar. Click menu on the BookMaker icon on the icon bar, and select
- 'config'. If you click on any of the icons (not the radio button) it will
- open the configuration options for that function, with a short description
- of what each item does. This saves me doing a description with these notes!
-
- To start your book, click on the BookMaker icon on the icon bar which will
- open a window with the master toolbar. Click on either the text or pictures
- icon. If you start with pictures, click on the picture library icon and
- drag a picture into the window. A 'backdrop' will always appear in the
- background so if you want to modify it in any way you will need to select
- the background canvas from the master toolbox icon. The title bar will
- always show whether you are in the background or foreground. A 'backdrop'
- is a special sprite in that nothing can be pushed behind it. To make a
- sprite or some text a 'backdrop', click on the sprite and choose
- Selection=>Make BackDrop from the menu.
-
- To add text, simply double click in the window where you want the text to
- appear. This will automatically open a text window with the caret and the
- text selection icons. Type in your text (or drag an edit file into the text
- window). You can change its appearance by clicking on the frame icon to
- add a speech bubble or clicking on the text change icon to alter the text
- colour.
-
- To go back to the master toolbar icons, click on the top icon on the toolbar
- you are working on. Alternatively if you click on a picture object this
- will automatically open the picture entry toolbar. Similarly with text.
-
- Moving text or graphics - just click on the text or object and drag it to
- its new position.
-
- Resizing a sprite or text area - Click on the object you want to resize and
- a box will appear around it. You will see a small square box in the bottom
- right corner - drag with adjust to resize the object or text block. Picture
- objects can be halved or doubled in size by clicking on the relevant icon on
- the toolbar. If you cannot select an object or text it is because it is on
- a different canvas to the one you are working on - go back to the main
- toolbar and select the other canvas (foreground/background swap tool).
-
- Function key shortcuts - the function keys f1 to f5 change the tools
- available.
-
- Groups - you can group objects together. The demo only allows you to group
- sprites. To do this click select on the sprite then click adjust on the
- next (and so on). Anything you now choose to do affects the whole group.
- To remove a sprite from the group double click on the sprite with the
- adjust button. There are more group functions in the full version.
-
- Mouse control - adjust button functions
- 1. Resizing as above.
- 2. Page control toolbar, clicking with adjust on page forward ⇨
- or page back ⇦ icons will take you to the last or first page in the book.
- 4. Pushing an object back with adjust will move it back through
- 1 object at a time (but not through the 'backdrop').
-
-
- To see an example book, drag a book into the window or onto the icon on the
- icon bar. Set the screen mode to 15, 21 or 28 for the best results.
- BookMaker is very economical with memory, sprites and draw files are
- automatically shared. We hope you enjoy using this demonstration version of
- BookMaker which is released in November 1992. If you have any comments about
- the program, we would greatly appreciate hearing from you.
-
- BookMaker 2 and BookWorm will be released in November 1992 @£49.50.
