  15. What is ExpressCheck?
  16.  
  17. ExpressCheck has a simple goal in life, to help you manage your
  18. checking accounts.  Because the various screen look just like
  19. your paper checks, deposit slips and check registers, you will
  20. find the program extremely easy to learn and use.  But Express-
  21. Check goes far beyond the usefulness of a check register.  Every
  22. check and deposit can be recorded to various budget codes that
  23. you set up.  This makes it possible for you to see at any time
  24. during the year where you stand in regard to your spending.  How
  25. much do you spend on food each month?  How much have you given in
  26. tax deductible donations?  Car payments, electricity, gasoline,
  27. entertainment?  Without ExpressCheck you either guess at where
  28. you spent all your money, or you spend long hours with a calcu-
  29. lator.  With ExpressCheck you can find out in just a few seconds.

  31. Entering checks and deposits is fast and enjoyable.  Recurring
  32. payments can be entered with two keystrokes.  Budget codes can be
  33. defined on the fly and you can pop up a window with all the
  34. currently defined codes whenever you need them.  ExpressCheck
  35. will even print the checks for you on any kind of tractor feed
  36. forms.

  38. Pre-defined reports can be printed that give you monthly or
  39. year-to-date totals for any or all budget codes, a check register
  40. with running balance, all transactions that have not yet cleared
  41. the bank, checks or deposits that included certain budget codes,
  42. or all checks made out to certain payees.  Many of the figures
  43. that go on your tax return are at your finger tips.

  68. The ORDER.BAT file on the Program Diskete can be used to print an Order
  69. Form and Mailing List form. Use the Order form to order the latest Disk
  70. Sets and Registered Copies of Expressware programs. Use the Mailing List
  71. Form to send us your address. We will add you to our mailing list, and
  72. will notify you of future updates and product announcements.  The form
  73. may also be used to send us comments about our products.

  93. When starting ExpressCheck you can use a /P on the command line to
  94. force the program to stop on the Opening Banner screen.  If you have
  95. added an Account Filename or a Path name in the Customize section,
  96. ExpressCheck will not stop at the Customize section to allow you to
  97. change anything when started normally.  If you want to change any
  98. custom options in this case, start ExpressCheck by typing:

  102. This will cause ExpressCheck to stop on the first screen, allowing
  103. you to press <F1> to display the Customize Section.

  108. USING EXPRESSCHECK FILES WITH FILE EXPRESS DATABASE PROGRAM:
  109.  
  110. The data files produced by ExpressCheck can be directly used by our
  111. database program, File Express.  The ExpressCheck program diskette
  112. contains a file called EXAMPLE.HDR that can be copied and renamed to
  113. the name of your account file.  This header file, along with the .DTA
  114. file where your check information is kept, constitute all that is
  115. needed for File Express.

  117. Example: You have an account file named PERSONAL.
  118.  
  119.          As you enter checks and deposits, ExpressCheck stores the
  120.            information in a file called PERSONAL.DTA.  This file
  121.            is in the same format as a File Express data file.
  122.  
  123.          All you need to do to be able to load the PERSONAL data file
  124.            into File Express is to have a PERSONAL.HDR file.  This can
  125.            be made by copying the EXAMPLE.HDR file and renaming it to
  126.            PERSONAL.HDR.  This can be done with this command at the
  127.            DOS prompt:
  128.                               COPY EXAMPLE.HDR PERSONAL.HDR  <Enter>

  130.          The pair of files, PERSONAL.DTA and PERSONAL.HDR, are all that
  131.            File Express needs to be able to load it.  After loading,
  132.            File Express will prompt you to sort the file to create
  133.            an index file.

  135. If you find that you want to produce complex reports, or do some search
  136. and replace operations, this easy access to File Express will do the job.

  141. Automatic disk space checking has been disabled as the default because
  142. some computers were constantly reporting 0K of disk space available
  143. even if there was an entire hard disk empty.  If you want to have this
  144. disk space checking turned back on you must put the command:

  146. in the CHECK.PRO file with a text editor.

  159. slash character.  For example, you may now use /MORTGAGE as a QuickFill
  160. code instead of just /M.
