- LASERJET IIP
-
- Unpack this file to a blank floppy and then run sp-setup with the
- floppy as the source. The following files will be unpacked onto
- the floppy:
- README This file.
- MAIN.SPL A tiny version that only calls one printer file
- -- use this as an example
- HP2P.SPL The printer description library file
- HP2PCMNT.SPL ditto, fully commented
- ENV.MSS A specimen envelope file
- COM10.SPM \
- MONARCH.SPM | macros that put envelope formatter
- DL.SPM | commands into your file, as above.
- C5.SPM /
-
- CASE.TCT Add to STANDARD.FMT to call the formatter
- translations for PC850 and ECMA94 (case
- statment not tested)
-
- PC850.TCT A special translation file
- ECMA94.TCT ditto.
-
- Printer driver files -- for your convenience --
- PC8PORT.SPP This and following were prepared for the
- PC8LAND.SPP LaserJet IIP using sp-setup, assuming use
- PC850POR.SPP of LPT1 as the output port. The 10-point
- PC850LAN.SPP or elite size courier font was chosen as
- PC8DNPOR.SPP the default font.
- PC8DNLAN.SPP
- ECMA94PO.SPP
- ECMA94LA.SPP

- The file HP2P.SPL contains a printer library file for the
- Hewlett-Packard LaserJet IIP. This is an upgraded version of the
- printer library available in HPLASER.SPL, reflecting the added
- built-in fonts in the 2P.
- HP2P.SPL does not contain any font descriptions for
- plug-in cartridges; only the built-in fonts are included.
- The descriptions for all fonts and envelope printers have
- been tested, but not exhaustively (I have other things to do that
- I ought to be doing instead of playing around with dang machines).
- The Courier font can print italics and bold italics in
- both the 10 and 12 pitch modes; Lineprinter prints neither bold
- nor italic. I have, out of respect for the typewriter ancestry of
- the Courier font, called the 10-pitch (12-point) font "Pica" and
- the 12-pitch (10-point) font "Elite."
- I expect it should be possible to condense this library
- file by using the command -as- intelligently; I've not had the
- time to play around with it.
- Note that the PC850 and ECMA font sets include several
- useful characters, especially the (C), (R), the paragraph symbol
- (called the *Pilcrow* if you care to know), the section symbol,
- and the +/- symbol as well as the vulgar fractions 1/4, 1/2, and
- 3/4. These can be printed using a formatter translation table if
- a line is inserted in STANDARD.FMT, as supplied.
- The translation table for the Roman8 font set is taken
- directly from the HPLASER.SPL file. It shifts foreign characters
- in the font set to ASCII codes that match the standard PC screen
- set, so the document and the screen are both readable.
- Note that envelopes must have an @@pageinit command at
- the beginning of the envelope file. This kills the default 1/2
- inch top margin provided by Sprint. See ENV.MSS for usage.
- Also note that you must press the printer's On Line
- button after formatting in order to print each envelope. The
- envelope must be placed face down, flap to the right, on the
- right edge of the MP tray.
