A French landscape architect, Henrik Nebbien completed the plan of the park in 1810. The patron of the plan was Palatine J≤zsef who donated the nicest, still living planetrees from his own land. The roads and walkways in the park were built in 1885. The Millennium Exhibititon in 1896 was held on this site. In World War II the City Park was badly damaged and the reconstruction started only in 1975.
