The building complex was erected for the 1896 Millennium Exhibition. The castle had to represent each architectural style that could be found in Hungary that time. Ignßc Alpßr won the competition in 1894. Since the complex was to be a temporary one, the materials used were selected for this purpose. When it was opened to the public and it was widely celebrated the castle was rebuilt from more weatherproof materials. The statue of Anonymus was erected in the garden. He was the unnamed scrivener of King BΘla IV and wrote the Chronicles of the Hungarians. The Museum of Agriculture can also be found in the building complex.
