The baroque building was constructed in the 18th century in several stages. The East wing was designed by the Italian Venerio Ceresola. As time passed by the building appeared to be too confined for the city council, therefore it was further enlarged by Mßtyßs Nepauer. (The staircase decorated with rococo stonevases is also his work.
