The original monument was demolished in 1896. The present form of the gate was built in 1936 for the 250th anniversary of the reoccupation of Buda. The angel, carrying a double cross in front of the gate, is the work of BΘla Hohmann. This statue together with the carved notice on the wall are to remember the siege when the Christian army recaptured the castle from the Turks.
