Most archives are maintained in acid- -free document cases, which come in both standard and legal sizes. The standard box is 7 inches high, 12 inches long, and 5 inches wide; the legal size 7 inches high, 15 inches long, and inches wide File folders, which also should be acid -free, are placed upright in the box, just as they would be in a file drawer. Each file folder should be separately marked and identified with the record unit number, the box number, and folder number in addition to information on the tab identifying the contents of the folder.
