The River Dove has been a popular spot for visitors for many centuries. The River supports a wide range of wildlife, including invertebrates such as stoneflies, crayfish and freshwater shrimps. These provide food for trout. Birds such as grey wagtail and dipper can be seen flying along the river. The River has many functions. It is a wildlife habitat, a source of drinking water for livestock, a recreation site and a place to relax. It is the warden's job to reconcile the needs of all the visitors to Dovedale.
