Outline of Sermon Server Commands:
Sermon Server v2.1
│
├─File Management
│ │
│ ├─Enter a Sermon
│ │ │ This command will let you enter any sermon you wish. After entering
│ │ │ each of the five requirements below, press 'W' to write the sermon
│ │ │ to disk.
│ │ │
│ │ ├─Date
│ │ │ The date of the sermon is always in the form mm-dd-yy. This is
│ │ │ actually the sermon's filename.
│ │ │
│ │ ├─Preacher
│ │ │ This option will show the default preacher name, but it can be
│ │ │ changed to any name you want.
│ │ │
│ │ ├─Title
│ │ │ Self-explanatory.
│ │ │
│ │ ├─Content
│ │ │ To import an ASCII file:
│ │ │ After pressing C to enter the <C>ontent, press <Y> to import
│ │ │ an ASCII text file. Enter the full file name -- including
│ │ │ path -- and press ENTER.
│ │ │
│ │ │ To enter the content manually:
│ │ │ After pressing C to enter the <C>ontent, press <N> to enter the
│ │ │ content manually. You have an unlimited number of lines for the
│ │ │ content. Press ENTER at the end of each line to begin the next
│ │ │ line.
│ │ │
│ │ └─Scripture
│ │ One line is given for you to use for the sermon's scripture. Enter
│ │ it in one of the following ways, according to which one applies:
│ │
│ │ Luke 1:1 for a single verse
│ │ Luke 1:1-3 for a group of verses
│ │ Luke 1:1-3, 6-8 for two groups in the same chapter
│ │ Luke 1:1-2:2 for a group spanning chapters
│ │ Luke 1:1-2:2, 4-5 for spanning chapters and Luke 2:4-5
│ │ Luke 1:1, 3:4 for two different chapters
│ │ Luke 1:1-3; John 3:16 for two different books
│ │
│ │ You may have scriptures from as many books as you wish in this
│ │ scripture line. Just follow the examples above, and you'll have
│ │ no problems! The spacing and punctuation MUST be done in this
│ │ way for the 'Search for chapter' option to work correctly.
│ │
│ ├─Delete a Sermon
│ │ Self-explanatory. This command will double-check to see if you are
│ │ sure you want to delete the sermon you select.
│ │
│ └─Edit a Sermon
│ │ Use this command after you have entered a sermon into Sermon Server.
│ │
│ ├─Date
│ │ Self-explanatory. This command will also change the filename for
│ │ the specified sermon and modify SERMONS.LST to reflect the change.
│ │
│ ├─Preacher
│ │ Self-explanatory. There is no default for this command.
│ │
│ ├─Title
│ │ Self-explanatory.
│ │
│ ├─Content
│ │ This process will allow you to change the content of any sermon,
│ │ either by importing an ASCII text file or manually changing the
│ │ content line by line. Once finished, you will have the chance to
│ │ 'undo' the changes you made.
│ │
│ │ To import an ASCII file:
│ │ After pressing C to edit the <C>ontent, press <Y> to import
│ │ an ASCII text file. Enter the full file name -- including
│ │ path -- and press ENTER.
│ │
│ │ To edit the content manually:
│ │ After pressing C to edit the <C>ontent, press <N> to edit the
│ │ content manually. Follow the directions given to you by
│ │ Sermon Server.
│ │
│ └─Scripture
│ This allows you to change the scripture or keep it the same. Once
│ finished, you will have a chance to 'undo' the changes you made.
│
├─Utilities
│ │
│ ├─Search menu
│ │ │ With this option, you can search all of your sermons for three
│ │ │ different parts of a sermon:
│ │ │
│ │ ├─Scriptures
│ │ │ │ With this option, you can search all of your sermons in one of two
│ │ │ │ ways:
│ │ │ │
│ │ │ ├─By book
│ │ │ │ Enter any book of the Bible and receive a list of sermons that
│ │ │ │ are based on scriptures from that book. NOTE: Currently, if
│ │ │ │ you search for "John", you will receive entries from 1 John,
│ │ │ │ 2 John, and 3 John, since "John" is a part of these names.
│ │ │ │
│ │ │ └─By chapter
│ │ │ Same as 'By book,' except that you must enter the book name and
│ │ │ chapter number. This WILL work for entries such as "Psalm 23",
│ │ │ refering to the entire psalm.
│ │ │
│ │ ├─Dates
│ │ │ │ This second search option allows you to look for sermons from a
│ │ │ │ certain date in one of four ways:
│ │ │ │
│ │ │ ├─By month
│ │ │ │ Enter the two digit code (i.e., 01, 02, ..., 12) for any month.
│ │ │ │
│ │ │ ├─By year
│ │ │ │ Enter the last two digits (i.e., 95 for 1995 or 04 for 2004) for
│ │ │ │ any year.
│ │ │ │
│ │ │ ├─By month and year
│ │ │ │ Enter the month and year in the form mm-yy (i.e., 01-95, or 12-04)
│ │ │ │ for any month and year.
│ │ │ │
│ │ │ └─By day, month, and year
│ │ │ Enter the full date in the form mm-dd-yy (i.e., 12-31-95) for any
│ │ │ date. This would be especially useful if you have many, many
│ │ │ sermons and you don't want to look through a long list to see if
│ │ │ you have a sermon for a particular date.
│ │ │
│ │ └─Preachers
│ │ │ This allows you to search in one of three ways:
│ │ │
│ │ ├─Full name
│ │ │ Self-explanatory.
│ │ │
│ │ ├─Last name
│ │ │ Self-explanatory. Useful if you can't remember a last name.
│ │ │ For every sermon that has a preacher with the first name you
│ │ │ enter, the full name is given.
│ │ │
│ │ └─First name
│ │ Self-explanatory. Useful if you can't remember a first name.
│ │ The full name is given here as well.
│ │
│ ├─Overview menu
│ │ │ With this you can get overviews of sermons in one of two ways:
│ │ │
│ │ ├─One sermon
│ │ │ This feature will give you the date, preacher, title, and scriptures
│ │ │ for the selected sermon.
│ │ │
│ │ └─All sermons
│ │ Same as 'Overview of a sermon,' except all sermons in the database
│ │ are shown. Press ESCape at any time to exit this cycle.
│ │
│ ├─View sermon
│ │ Select a sermon's date from those listed on the screen, and you will
│ │ see the entire sermon -- date, preacher, title, content, and
│ │ scriptures.
│ │
│ ├─Print sermon
│ │ This feature will print the selected sermon to LPT1.
│ │
│ ├─Sort sermons
│ │ This is a very fast, reliable way to automatically sort your sermons
│ │ by date. The procedure involved does not alter the sermons in any
│ │ way, but only affects 'sermons.lst'. In my testing of this program,
│ │ it NEVER incorrectly sorted or left out any dates. Illegal dates
│ │ will not be thrown out, but will be converted into legal dates.
│ │ In other words, a date like 13-01-95 will become 01-01-96. However,
│ │ you will no longer be able to access 13-01-95 because it will not
│ │ be in 'sermons.lst'. Therefore, NEVER enter any illegal dates
│ │ and then sort your sermons!
│ │
│ └─List sermon titles
│ This will show all the titles in the database and the dates they
│ were used.
│
├─Miscellaneous
│ │
│ ├─Shell to DOS
│ │ Self-explanatory. Type EXIT at the DOS prompt to return to Sermon
│ │ Server. You may run out of memory to run large programs from this
│ │ DOS prompt.
│ │
│ └─Print donation form
│ Select this option to easily print out a ready-to-use donation form.
│
├─Change Options
│ │
│ ├─Default preacher
│ │ This option will allow you to change the default preacher for
│ │ Sermon Server. If you select this and do not wish to change
│ │ the default preacher, press ENTER and nothing will change.
│ │
│ └─Input/output directory
│ The input/output directory is where all sermons for Sermon
│ Server are stored. If at any time you wish to change this
│ directory for any reason, you may. Simply enter first the
│ drive letter and next the directory. If you select this and
│ do not wish to change the i/o directory, you will next be
│ given the chance to stop the directory change. If needed,
│ Sermon Server will create the directory. Finally, Sermon
│ Server will move all sermons and related f
