  81. The installation procedure for DIR-DESC is quite simple.  The
  82. package includes a program, "INSTALL.EXE", which automates the
  83. entire process.  You will need about 210K of available disk space
  84. on the hard drive on which you plan to install DIR-DESC.
  85.  
  86. The exact steps you need to take will depend on how you received
  87. DIR-DESC.
  88.  
  89.  
  90. INSTALLING FROM DISKETTES
  91.  
  92. To install from diskette(s), you need to perform the following steps.
  93.  
  94.    o  Place DIR-DESC distribution diskette "Disk 1 of 1" in the
  95.       appropriate diskette drive.
  96.  
  97.    o  Execute the "INSTALL.EXE" program on the distribution diskette.
  98.       For example, if the distribution diskette is on drive A:, type
  99.       the MS-DOS command, "a:install".
  100.  
  101.    o  Follow the instructions presented by the installation program.
  102.       You will have a chance to approve installation before any changes
  103.       are actually made to the contents of your hard drive.
  104.       INSTALL may give you a path to copy to because DIR-DESC is alot
  105.       more usefull when in your system's path.
  106.       The program will ask you for a destination directory, and it will
  107.       copy DIR-DESC's files to that directory.
  108.  
  109.       If you so direct it, the installation program will install
  110.       executable programs and documentation in other directories of your
  111.       choice.    It will make no other changes;  specifically, it
  112.       will not modify your autoexec.bat or config.sys files.
  113.       But you should put DIR-DESC into your path.

  116. INSTALLING FROM A HARD DRIVE
  117.  
  118. If you downloaded DIR-DESC from a BBS (or received it in the form of
  119. archive files from some other source), you will need to perform the
  120. following steps.
  121.  
  122.    o  Extract the contents of the archive file(s) in a temporary
  123.       directory on your hard drive.  The procedure for doing this
  124.       varies, depending on the form in which you received the package.
  125.       In all likelihood, the fact that you are reading this text means
  126.       that you already have the necessary tools and knowledge to
  127.       perform this step.  If not, you should be able to obtain
  128.       directions for this from the same source from which you received
  129.       the package.
  130.  
  131.    o  Execute the "INSTALL.EXE" program which you have extracted.  For
  132.       example, if the temporary directory into which you have extracted
  133.       the DIR-DESC's package is C:\TEMPDIR, you would execute the MS-DOS
  134.       command, "c:\tempdir\install".
  135.  
  136.    o  Follow the instructions presented by the installation program.
  137.       You will have a chance to approve installation before any changes
  138.       are actually made to the contents of your hard drive.  The
  139.       program will ask you for a destination directory, and will copy
  140.       DIR-DESC's files to that directory.  If you so direct it, the
  141.       installation program will install executable programs and
  142.       documentation in other directories of your choice.  It will make
  143.       no other changes; specifically, it will not modify your

  147. When you're satisfied that the installation was successful, you should
  148. delete the temporary directory FROM which you installed DIR-DESC
  149. (C:\TEMPDIR, in the above discussion), including all its contents.

  155. (DD.DOC) which have been installed.  In particular,
  156. read at least the "Overview" and "Quick Start" sections of the file

  158. and will give you other information you need to properly evaluate
