| for viruses while it does the conversion. You
| can specify a preferred archiving format and
| Pulsar will always convert all other archive
| files to that format automatically. (The
| author can no longer be reached at the
| address listed in the documentation.)

PUT341.ZIP 219245 12-22-94 Put/Get/Install 3.41 contains

SCRNCH.ZIP 53296 05-29-89 Scrnch 1.02 is a file compression utility for
| software developers. It creates a very small
| self-extracting file. The disadvantage of
| SCRNCH is that it takes a LONG time to
| compress a file. (The extraction is very
| quick, however.) This combination of factors
| is why Scrnch is targeted at software
| developers who distribute many copies of the
| same program, rather than at the general
| public who may want to combine and compress
| files more routinely and quickly. (Graeme W.
| McRae) (Reg.Fee: $35)

| greatly increase the effective space on your
| hard disk. You can compress files with it and

ST_EXP.ZIP 86102 02-11-90 ST-EXP compresses and expands text files.
| The good news is that it even out-compresses
| LHA by over 25%. A 122k text file was
| compressed to 57k by LHA and to 40k by
| ST-EXP. Now the bad news: it only works on
| one file at a time, it cannot be used on
| non-text files and it costs $25-$50 to
| register (versus $0 for LHA). Also, if you
| are compressing a file to give to someone
| else, with ST-EXP you have to give them at
| least the 30k EXP.EXE program with which to
| extract, if not the entire package. With LHA,
| you can create a self-extracting file that
| requires no other software. So ST-EXP is not
| ideal for something like shareware
| distribution, but should be very worthwhile
| for those needing to compress text files on
| their own hard disk or for backup storage on
| floppies. (MicroComputer Square) (Reg.Fee:
| $25-$50)
