KENO SIMULATOR
by Gary W. Shaw II
This is a ShareWare Program which allows you to "try before you buy".
If you find this program either entertaining or useful please purchase
it. I am asking for $30 U.S. Even if you do not pay for it, and think
of any ways to improve it, you can drop me a letter. Before sending
in a suggestion on how to improve the product please check below for
items included in the Registered Copy. If you use this simulator to
develop a winning strategy on a real Keno machine, Please share your
results. I will include some of my "Favorite Numbers" which have
actually won money for me in the past. When I send updates to all the
registered users I will include a list of numbers with their results,
which have been sent to me from all the users.
FEATURES:
Simulates a "Vegas" keno machine.
Multi-Game play.
Variable betting.
Number Tracking.
Casino Odds.
True Odds.
Point and Click Graphic Interface.
PROGRAM USE QUICK START:
1) When the program first starts up you have a total of 1000 credits.
You may pick up to 10 numbers by clicking on the numbers you want to
play. The numbers you pick will be marked with an X.
2) Your payoff odds will be displayed in the box on the right. For
instance, if you had picked 4 nunbers, say 1,2,3,4 and you were
to hit all 4 numbers, your payoff would be 90 to 1. That's 90 credits
for every 1 you bet.
3) After picking your numbers you can either adjust your bet or start
your game by clicking on Start.
4) You can also adjust the Multi-Game play by clicking on + or - to
increase or decrease the amount of games you would like to play in a
row. If at any time you would like to stop the multi-game play then
press the Escape key. At the end of the current game in play Multi-Game
will be cancelled.
5) There are a total of 80 numbers to choose from, of which 20 numbers
will be picked at random by the computer. Those numbers will be turned
from black boxes with white letters to white boxes with black letters.
6) If you win anything while playing, the number of "Numbers Hit" will
be highlighted in the odds box to the right and the appropriate amount
of credits will be added to your score.

REQUIRED EQUIPMENT:
An IBM PC or 100% Compatible running XX-DOS 3.2 or better.
A Mouse with appropriate mouse driver loaded before starting KENO.
A VGA Video card and Monitor. A minimal 256K card is ok. All VGA
cards to my knowledge are at least 256K.
PROGRAM USE BUTTON BY BUTTON AND BOX BY BOX:
START: Starts game play.
ERASE: Erase the game board.
NUMBERS HIT: This just displays how many numbers you have hit in
a single game play.
ERASE PICK: This will erase the numbers you have currently selected.
DELAY: This will toggle the Delay OFF and ON.
REPORT: This will generate a Report of the history of numbers you have
won with. Also depending on how many games have been played to
date, some suggestions on which numbers to pick, depending on
the history of numbers generated thus far.
MULTI-GAME: This allows increasing or decreasing the amount of games
you wish to play in a row. This can be cancelled during
play by pressing the Escape key.
BET: This allows you to adjust your bet. You will not be allowed to
make a bet higher than the amount of credits you have.
CREDITS: This shows your current amount of Credits. This is updated as
you play.
SELECTION BOX: The box in the upper left hand corner of the screen.
This is numbered from 1 to 80. You may select up to 10 numbers
at a time or no numbers at all.
ODDS BOX: This is the box in the upper right hand corner of the screen.
This box will show you the current payoff odds depending on
the amount of numbers you have selected. This determines what
your payoff will be and the minimum amount of numbers you need to
get any Credits back.
NUMBER TRACKER: This is the box at the lower right hand corner of the
screen. This box will get updated every time a game is
played. The 20 numbers that have been picked by the
computer out of the 80 available, will be updated in
this box. This is one of the ways you can track which
numbers have hit more than others.

WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT:
This is my attempt at creating a Keno Simulator that can be used
for your enjoyment. Although anyone who has spent those many hours
in a casino playing Keno either at the Live keno lounges or the
machines knows it is a very addictive game. It seems that Murphy's
Law plays a big part in keno, for whenever you change your numbers
for something that you think looks better, your old numbers will
come up! Damn I could've won $1000 you yell inside your head!
Well, this is a cheap alternative to the thrill you get from
sitting there for hours on end watching those little numbers come
up on the screen and drinking those horribly watered down drinks.
This way you can sit in the privacy of your own home and drink
watered down drinks and still not win $1000.
This was mainly developed for my own enjoyment. But I know that
a lot of people out there would probably enjoy it also. So I added
a few more features than I had originally planned on, and decided
to give it a try at ShareWare. The version you get when you
register is in my opinion, far superior to this version. See
below for an explanation of all the features that a registered
version has over this version.
How can I really make money with this thing? Well, that's hard
to say really. But I can tell you this. In every Random Number
Generator, certain numbers will often group together. With this
in mind, and applying some of the Analytical techniques I use
at work, we can find these numbers and generate a report on
which numbers are most probable to come up again within a
given time period.
If you have a set of numbers that you think are real money
makers, please write me a letter and let all the users in on
it. I will keep a listing of them and test them with a special
text based version of this program that can do quite a few more
simulations per second than the registered version does. The
registered version does about 1 simulation per .7 seconds, but
most of this time is spent updating the screen display. I may
make the text version available if there is enough interest in
it from the users of the Registered Version. Than again running
it on a 486-33Mhz doesn't hurt. But I have gotten the same results
for the Graphic version on a 286-12Mhz Machine. I plan on sending
out a semi-annual mailer of the numbers that have had any success
with the users and printing their results.

WHY SHOULD I PAY FOR THIS SOFTWARE?
Well if you are happy with this version and really don't want any
of the features listed below, then I hope you enjoy it and you
really don't need to pay anything. But, if you want the features
listed below, than send in your money. It's that simple.
WHAT DO I GET IN THE REGISTERED VERSION?
1) By registering the software, you help to ensure that it will be
supported in the future, that it will be continually updated
with new features, and any bugs that are found (Hopefully none)
will be fixed.
2) Report - The report will tell you a history of which numbers
have paid off the most from the numbers you have picked. It will
also suggest to you which numbers have occurred together most
often. This will enable you to develop a winning strategy at keno.
3) The ability to play as many Multi-Games as you have credits.
4) Bet as many Credits as you have available.
5) Credit Tracking - Keeps a running total of how many credits
you have from one session to another. If you win big and then quit,
when you start up again, your credits will still be there.
6) Machine Earnings - Keeps a running total of how much you
have lost to the machine, the casino's take, and a utility to
manipulate those earnings to your credits or to just empty the
machine.
7) Delay - Being able to turn the delay off will enable you to
play as many as 1 game per .7 seconds. About a 100 simulations
per minute. The only sound you will hear is your numbers
hitting.
8) True Odds - The ability to switch between casino odds (the default)
to true odds, which are typically 20% better.
9) Pattern Recall - Recalls the last 500 patterns you have used
with the click of a mouse. This will enable you to use your
favorite numbers again easily without having to remember
what they were.
10) Sound - Turns the sound completely off or on.

WHAT'S IN THE FUTURE?
For starters, if I can get ahold of some data sheets for the
different random number generators for the various types of
keno machines out there, I will incorporate a feature able
to simulate those number generators. This will enable you to
emulate the various keno machines out there, and hopefully you
will be able to work out a plan for the different machines and
maybe make some money. Or just be able to play the different
keno machines, the way they act.
If anyone out there knows which chips are used in any of the keno
machines let me know and I'll be able to get ahold of the data
needed to simulate those chips. Or, if you know of any of the
algorythms used in the various machines, let me know and I should
be able to derive some code from those algorythms.
I will also listen to criticism anyone has about this simulator
on ways to improve it or things that you don't like about it.
ABOUT THE PROGRAMMER.
I have been programming for a little over 11 years. Professionally
for about 5 years. I grew up in the age of the PC and have learned
to program on many platforms. I have programmed Amigas, Apples,
Ataris, Commodores, IBM's, and some UNIX machines. I have a broad
background, from games and picture utilities to business applications.
I am currently working for an Investment Technologies company in
Marina del Rey, CA, working in the Windows platform. If there is
enough of a request for a Windows version of this program I will
be more than happy to create a Windows version.
I program mostly in "C" and "C++", but do write some time critical
routines in assembler. I also know 68000 assembly, Forth and Basic.
If you are a programmer looking for some help in any of the areas
that you think may be some of my strong points, let me know and
maybe we can do a project together.
